Well....there seems to be more and more things going haywire on my body every day....I almost destroyed my left bicep removing a paint roller cover from a roller????

So....for a little backstory....I once totaled a 1965 Falcon station wagon....(weep...weep...flow..full tears...gimme a second....).....Cough. cough..all better now...(I loved that car)....(Who wouldn't....as a teenager...it got nearly 30mpg...could top nearly 120mph..and had a bed for a back seat?

Soooo....anyway...when I totalled out this car...a pickup pulled out right in from of me....in the rain..and...I had no choice but to T-bone him.

Yeah....I kinda had that proverbial..."whole life beore your eyes thing"...but..it didn't get that far....

Really, I was busy calculating my best options.. Now....he was pulling out from a stop sign on my right...there were cars behind him.....soooo...trying to make a 90° turn @ 40mph without possibly involving serious injuries on totally uninvolved people was quickly dismissed.

Then....I thought about going left...(but the bridge went from one lane to two) ...and which is why this guy thought he could scoot into that right lane...and let the guy go by.....(which would have been fine....) excepting the fact there was a car going 40 mph in the rain less than 200' away

BTW: It's amazing how fast the mind can actually work in such circumstances.

Sooo.....to continue...as I said...there was a bridge behind that car....sooo...here were my choices....try to make a 90° turn at 40 mph in the rain without drifting into innocent bystanders....try to "shoot the gap" and go behind him.....which incidentally, meant missing the bridge and heading towards a 40' drop.....

Trying to go in front of him.....(now I have a car coming head on at 40Mph).....ummmm ....no!

So...I just tried to scrub speed off and T-boned him...(actually...some of the other options were slightly feasible....and I considered them....but at the last moment....I could just see this guy driving off....

Sooo....I nailed him the door post....in slow motion....I was sliding in the rain into the side of this truck.....then....boom....getting hit in the face with a baseball bat..

I woke up....looking at headlights heading toward me....my car had actually went from 40+ to 0 in 0 feet....I actually knocked that dummy all the way across the highway....(despite the fact that truck was much heavier) .....

Soooo....as I said....I totalled this car....my right hand decimated a bakelight knob on a. 3/16" steel spindle...(fortunately....only skinned my knuckle) ....

My chin hit. the steering wheel on the right side of my chin ....which turned my head to the left....then....I hit the curvre in the corner of the windshield....which turned my head back to the right.....(giving me whiplash) ....while cracking out the windshield.....

But....I literally walked away....and the tow truck driver commented on how he'd seen MANY fatalities in wrecks that weren't even as bad.....and my mom started crying when see saw the car....and said..."You could've been killed!" Ever the Poboy.....I responded: "Ya think , ma?"

So.... Friday....I was pulling a roller cover off a paint roller....and it kinda jerked off....and I did something to my left bicycle....it's FUBAR right now!!!!! Say WHAT???

But my snakes are 5' long!

my parents are in texas. I visited...didn't mind the heat...80 degrees in maine is worse than 100 degrees in texas (humidity) But I need more green and cant live somewhere that flat!

That's one of the things so cool about Big Bend....you can be in 120° temperature....hike up a mountain for an hour or two ....and be crunching snow....

You know....I'm a little tired of the "Oh...it's not the heat...it's the humidity BS...

I'm here to tell you...we have both....and 100° is miserable...despite the humidity....but 80° is tolerable....despite the humidity...sorry...I call BS on that!!!!

I have to disagree I'm afraid :(

humidity is the killerapp of your local climate, and the reason is simple..

the more water you breath, the less oxygen (useable oxygen that is) you can filtrate
(that's why it feels like breathing a velvet scarf instead of air)
The less oxygen you have, the sooner you get tired of absolutely everything!

And as bad comes to worse... sweating should keep you cool, but the humid air can't evaporate your sweat (since it's already nearly saturated)
and thus you cannot cool down as easily as with dry air.

And as a result, your body runs in emergency mode (you get tired even faster, since your body wants to stop you from burning calories to prevent overheating)

Funny enough...
even freezing cold temperatures are much easier to endure with dry air, very different mechanics.. same killer app :.... humidity ;)

I was down in Tx, flying a RC plane on a 102 degree day in direct sunlight and only had a little sweet on my forehead.

a few days later I was back in maine, working in my garage and it was 75 degrees...my shirt was soaked, sweet dripping off my forehead onto my glasses.

I clearly recall my dad on a 50 degree fall day with a sweat shirt on splitting wood...the front of his shirt was a giant "V" of sweat. Wasn't the heat, it was humid.

I was only in Tx for a week and I know parts of Tx are not all flat. But where my parents are you could stand on the roof of your car and see forever in any direction. And even when it rained really hard (actually had flooding that week...weird) I remember thinking that the air wasn't very humid considering the weather.

If I had to live in Maine....I'd sweat too!!!!! JK....

There's a couple of things not mentioned.....yes...Texas is a dry heat for the most part....but go to Houston...and...........ummmmm......ain't happening....

The other part of the equation....that Alex touched on...is evaporation ....undoubtedly....there was a breeze that day....Texas golfers are famous for their low flying golf shots....(because we always have wind).....

A little known side note....Tiger Woods has his own tee box at Leonard's....a practice facility I frequently go to....and is also Nike's R&D center....

I also strongly suspect that's where Tiger honed his infamous "knock-down stinger" iron shot....(I also wonder if one of the golf pros or Tiger saw my putter shot and that's where he got it from....as I came up with it on my own....and Tiger is the only person in the world I have ever seen do it....(and only once)....

Errrrr....ummmmm....:backtotopic: When the wind doesn't blow and it's over 100° it's just like high humidity.
