I was thinking those little side covers could attach (at least 1) to run along side the chain. Kinda the way they actually work for the Dozer tracks.

I still think, especially with it's wheels and treat, that'd be the perfect size for an armrest.

Sorry for the delay in any updates here but life just threw me to the ground in the last 3 weeks.

Wife and I kicked our 28 yr old (well, not mine...her kid) out of the house, her other kids visited, I got overwhelmed with more than one knows and took some time off to get it all straight.

It's truly amazing what doing that will do to a family, especially when it's gone on for 13 years.

Now in a nice quiet house and my kid about to hit 11th grade, we're back on track.

Now with a nice newer truck and a 6x12x6 high karting race trailer, I now have my space back for the kart rods and I can get back at it. Also might get back to racing myself. My daughter is now 16 and doing it all herself now and has her license too... I'm about to send her to the track on her own.

What a journey.

Anyway.

Where was I? What to work on.

Baroness, U51? Hm. Baroness. Yessir.

Update:

With things now in a nice calm place, I can continue working on my little hobby... in PEACE.

Inventory on two rides:
1. Unit 51 (a.k.a. Moving Violation)
2. The Baroness.

Most parts in place, just missing a suitable brake system for the cop car.

p.s. The search for a suitable frame for the Tonka-Rod continues. Nothing yet, sadly.

Update, just another Thursday but back in the swing of things.

Replaced the front wheels on U51 with something more suitable (no pics yet, gotta paint them)

Found a set of rear Manco's for the live axle, now the Kartonka (Tonka Go kart) has a set of wheels.

Anyone got a better name? Kartonka, Tonkart, ... Ick.

Update:

Friday and the weekend to myself. Wife working, kid is ... well, 16 and I have time.

First up, an engine for the Tonka R/T (thank you sid, I love the name, I'm using it.)

Sitting on my shelf of kartrod parts are 3 of those nifty briggs I/C engines with the updraft carbs. One of them seems to foot the bill. The nice one, clean, dark grey and should work nicely. Since it's a tonka... it's gotta be a blocky looking thing and this engine should work just right.

Then, a sea of yellow stuff... and the "WING" I just might use. The wing, is the Tonka Dozer's blade. I'm not much for wings since they don't really do anything until you hit... oh... 80mph.

Word.

And this one will not go quite that fast...

But.. this one's about seeing if it can be done with some style and creatively use these parts with dignity.

Update:

Note to self... Rustoleum Sunburst Yellow Spray Paint is a direct match to a 1970's metal tonka truck.

Sit everything in just the right weird place (and make a plan for attaching it all and making it look right) and you have the beginnings of something very strange.

The Tonka R/T. (a.k.a. Devastator)

Dozer roll cage on the engine, loader's engine cover as the air filter cover... and the other stuff sprinkled around... Yep.

Please don't paint over the proud, well earned battle scars of the lower track frame's, even as you give the old toy a rebirth as part of something new. I vote for clear coat only, if you must......

There are many of us that used to play with such toy's, and a little bit of here's a partial survivor may be in order.......

I agree clear coat. Lovin tha air cleaner too. Also think about turning that exhaust 90* straight up like a diesel dozer.

I think I'd put the engine on the right side of the kart though (just to have the yellow on the outside)

Since you insist of wheel mounting those track frames, I guess you'd need a scrub brake to have a front mounting point (slotted).
hopefully that turns out to still fit, now that you cut it *cross fingers*
