Boy is this embarassing..so I ordered a TAV2 ripoff off Amazon. Standard 3/4" bore and I was positive I had a 3/4 output shaft.
TC arrives tries on the driver and it doesn't fit. Think oh well its only a little off (I did closely look at how much bigger the output shaft was, apparently not well enough) I started the engine and ran sandpaper over the shaft. Fast forward a few hours later and driver still doesn't fit. I realize that since my engine came factory with a 2:1 gear reducer that the out was bigger than normal.:mad2:So now I have a GX160 with a smaller than factory output that I cant reattach the gear reducer and cant attach the TC. So now I have 3 choices: Buy a 212 predator, order the new GX160 crank for cheaper and deal with ripping the engine apart, which means ordering new gaskets etc, or keep grinding down the output. The thing is, even though it's a genuine Honda, it is old (10+ years abused before I got it) and its making all kinds of noise so I'm thinking that overall, it'll be cheaper and easier to go with the Predator. However I guess I could keep trying sanding the shaft too. I need advice. Thanks

If the Honda is used and abused I think I would just opt for the predator 212. Even if you keep sanding away at the crank till it fits the key way wont be deep enough

there is a guy on the forum that turned down a crank for a person in need. May need to talk to him, I forget his name as he doesn't post super often.

UPDATE: I've decided FOR NOW to try to keep sanding the shaft down. I'm actually kind of close to 3/4" so I guess that I had better try to finish what I started. Updates to come. Thanks to everyone that's replied, I really appreciate you giving your time on an idiot like me.

Never call yourself and idiot! We all try stupid crap that is the best way to learn. I recently tried to open a 3/4 hub to 20mm using sand paper wrapped around a drill bit! It did not work. Luckily it was a $12 part. But I posted it here. I figure others could learn from my mistake too. Let us know how it turns out, It might just work and you are not an idiot but a little Less Broke.

I suppose that is the best way to learn... Actually one of the reasons how I convinced my parents to let me get a go kart is to learn what and what not to do on a real car. For example, if I blow up a go kart engine, no huge deal, I can get a Predator for $120. If I blow up my truck(in the future, I'm fourteen as of now)then that's more along the lines of $1000+...

Also, did some more sanding and I think a few more hours and I might have it done. I also might have no keyway.:lolgoku:

Wait, STOP! Did no one else pick up on this little tidbit?

my engine came factory with a 2:1 gear reducer

A TC, nor a cent clutch won't operate correctly with a gear reduction box; even at 3600rpm, with a 2:1 reduction, the output shaft will only spin at 1800rpm, which is nowhere near sufficient to engage either type of clutch...

I removed the reducer

So I may have figured out how to fix my keyway problem.:idea2: Wait, what keyway problem? By sanding down, one side of my keyway is getting shaved down more than the other. There should be an attachment that shows this. But what is my possible solution? I was thinking that some JB Weld plus some steel powder might work. Give me your opinions on this. Also I can see how uneven I have been sandng..

Nevermind my last post.. I found out that the output shaft is too short.:censored: So I think I'm gonna go down to Harbor Freight and pick up a 212 Predator. Uhg. So done with dealing with all this:mad2: Maybe when I actually make this thing work Ill upload a video or something.

Wait how much too short? I do not have a TC but I always hear on this forum that the predator shaft is also short for the TCs. But it is not too short, I think guys just get a longer bolt and or there is a shaft extension.
See what other guys with Direct experience post here next. Or just don't be surprised when the Predator is short shafted.

The Honda shaft was about an inch 3/4 inch to short. How I didn't notice I don't know, but I have been working on the go kart for the past 9 and a half hours and the tc fit just fine on the Predator engine. Speaking of working, I'll upload a few pictures of what the setup is tomorrow.

This is what us adults call a learning moment. You did not make any mistakes you just learned how not to do things in the future. :mad2: We've all done it!

"Turning " down a shaft can be done....but not with sandpaper....

If you can get a good anchor point...and use a bastard file...you might be able to pull it off.....however....usually it will try to take off more at the keyway and you have to fight that....and once it starts out of round...it only gets worse...

It's nearly impossible to get it perfect...but I have gotten it done acceptably....(with a slight wobble) ....

So....you aren't the only one....BTW, I know the sandpaper doesn't work by experience as well....

EDIT: I expected a word above to be censored...But....I guess it was removed from the list when I joined so people could speak freely about me.....lol...

Finally everything is done... That was a REALLY long thrash, I think 12 hours over two days.:smiley_omg: Haven't run it yet as I have no gas but I can't wait until I do! Thank God everything bolted together just right. I had to fight the spacers I made for the engine. In one of the pics below, you can see that the engine is up above the mount plate. Used some box tube and a grinder to make them. Chain is loose but when it stretches I can adjust engine position enough to take a link out. Video may or may not be taken.
