Update:

Got home from work and did the usual.. then it was outside to do some mundane stuff, in this case, wheels for the Semi. Seeing the turbines passed the test... they have to go on the shelf for now until they return on Bonneville Spirit (and sid likes me again...) and they have the rubber I need.

Over the weekend I'd done a lot of organizing and decided that these would work for it.

Once functional, what should arrive at my doorstep? The UPS man with my tires for Moving Violation/Unit 51.

So... sandwiched in between these rims are these sweet tires. Sarge runs these on the back and I love them. I found a place that sells em for 21 bucks each so... you know the story.

Then, the semi frame was up. Needed to piece it together so we did just that. Disregard the braces that are seen as they're going to be cut off and longer ones welded lengthwise and crosswise as a combination of two frames will ABSOLUTELY need this or we're gonna die. Why? Never weld two frames together like this without a load of other bracing.

It'll fail, period.

The combination of these gives a way better stance and enough room for the rest.

(someone says BJ & the Bear (((DENNIS)))... I'm gonna barf)

I'm still not sure on the color and might not even care for it. It's just gonna be a beat up semi/wrecker so maybe just a primer gray / dirty old thing sort of look will work.

Im sure it has been mentioned but you gotta figure out how to make the semi a dually. Or you know what would be cool... Some of these new lawn tractors have a tiny DIESEL small engine. Sorry if all this was already proposed I missed some of the hundred page thread.

Good idea and yep, it was tossed around a while back... but doing it wouldn't be hard. With that wide rear axle another set of wheels could be added... but then we may have a problem.

That much grip on one's rear end may just point this thing in a straight line... (don't read too far into that sid...) at which point I'd just bail out & watch the crash. MUA HA HA HA HA!

Or, add the inner wheels and let them just spin (or float) on the axle. That might work. Guess i better find a few junkers for parts if we go that direction.

Maybe just another set behind the drive wheels on springs so they barely touch the ground allowing it to turn ok? Hm...

Never know where it'll go. That's the fun.

Then a single long fender, so you cant see that it is not dually, It would look like a typical 10 wheel semi.

A lot of the trucking companies around here are switching over to the new double width single tire and rim combos for the drive wheel's on the tractor as well as all on the trailer. That would mean you only need wider singles at the rear, saving a lot of effort on the engineering end.

As for adding a tag axle, how about just a basic pair of trailing arm's, with just a pair of low tension coil springs from the hardware store? Just enough pressure to keep the wheels on the ground while letting it float over uneven pavement, but not enough to adversely affect handling?

Just a few ideas spawned from having a three axle dumpster hauler stranded outside my door at work today when the driver snagged part of the sand dock roof with his truck.......

Remember the beginning of this whole thing? The idea is to use what you have and buy very little... and when you do buy something... it has to be cheap and have parts to spread to the others as you go. Then, when one makes the cut (such as Sarge and you want to keep it forever) you modify it with better parts as they come along and use the old ones for the new candidate ideas.

Good idea... if I even do the 2nd set of wheels. These get long enough as they are. If I did it... it'd be a removable 2nd axle that just acts as a trailing arm. (remember training wheels on your bicycle and what happened if you went through a dip the wrong way?)

If I really liked this semi that much, it'd stay black, there'd be a nose on it and a rubber DUCK for a hood emblem. (come on you 70's buffs... what show's that from?) But... I always liked the Kenworth K100.

Yes your karts are loooong as they are. I was looking and even thinking the 2nd axle could mount in front of your actual rear drives. Not sure that would work it just looks like it might on a tablet screen.

Yes, this.

That back clip thing has to go down a bit, different air filter so it's lower and a few other things... but this is a usable and proven pile of crap... and it's ole Sarge's counterpart... so, yea.

Semi wheels are seen here... and, well... they may end up here because this was the first Kart Rod... and anything other than 5" wheels simply WILL NOT FIT. Semi might get a different treatment anyway.

I got way too many projects.

I just wanted to share my 2 cents worth for the semi kart build...
If you do plan/think on/of Making it have two sets of wheels back there why not make the Rear most set just two Free wheeling kind of like the one wheel wonders but without the power going to them, or like a split Stub Axle on a low Tow able Trailer.
and the engine power would be only going to the inner Rear Set of tires.

Moving forward:

Cruising the local classifieds this morning and what do I find? Parts... and just the right stuff too.

Manco wheels 5" backs & 4" fronts... completes the set of manco's I needed... then the 4" ones make nice kart stand wheels... then a usable frame for yet another project.... and the motor runs, new clutch too!

100 bucks got this. That's a score to me.

Time to spread these parts around & see where it all lands! I've always wanted one of these single seater manco's.
