Update:

I did some digging in my stuff and found what I was looking for. The aluminum Kick plate from your average 1950's aluminum storm door.

Why? It has this neat ribbed aluminum plate you can't seem to buy any more... and that's what I wanted. Originally, the aluminum steps from a broken ladder were going to be used... but I found what I wanted.

On with the fabrication... on my deck.

Once I found a nice shape I liked cut out in paper, I cut out the stuff and trimmed it up. This was a unique job because these old fins I'm using are NOT the same. Old Fiberglass boats were less than perfect so each one had to be done individually.

In the end, I'm pretty happy with my eye-balling job here.

They're not attached yet because we have to fiberglass up the fin irregularities and build a new front piece for one of them.

But they're built.

Some steel wool soap pads later and they look pretty good to me.

Thanks, there all kinds of weird references in this thread (and a lot of unorthodox parts) if you know what to look for. It's an artistic thing.

Anyhoo, Update:

First up. Happy Fathers Day Weekend for all those here that are. I appreciate your service. LOL


Shined up the fin caps more and made the dash plate for the steering hoop. This will look nice.

Might have to put some actual gauges on this one. After all, it resembles a late 50's car. Anyone know of a mini rpm gauge that could pass as vintage looking?

Tomorrow will consist of fiberglassing back in the missing pieces of these old fins. This will include glassing in some nuts for some well hidden mounts.

Also, did a little work on the intake too which will resemble a triple air filter setup to mimic the Tri power that could be found on such a car. No pics yet, you gotta wait for it.

Continuing on... Update:

Nothing like, ohhh..... 104 Degrees to get ya going eh?

But, sigh... Fiberglass cures quite quickly (especially when you mix it hot) on a fine dripping sweaty day like this.

Fins for Christine, fixed and some preliminary sanding/contouring done. Far from finished, but fixed and we have something to work with now.

Update:

More hot weather... only 100 today.

Bondo to fill in some weird spots, set, sand, primer the **** out of them... prep to sand more... but they're just about there.

Basically equal length, etc.

I made a flat notch in the back top portion of the fins just under the fin caps that we'll be making a fiberglass flat part for. Reason: Mini bullet tail lights sticking out, just under the fin caps.

Next up, weld together the chopped front end piece. After that, weld the frame pieces in place.

Update: Got a wild hair up my behind trying to figure out what to use for lights... and found them. The spare bullet lights I had. A cut here, trim there... now to build the mounts for them.

This should look pretty neat.

Are you going to add bulbs, or are they just going to be eye candy? Either way, it's going to look cool, just curious about if you're thinking about spicing it up a bit.

Thanks. I still should... SHOULD ad real headlights to Sarge... but sometimes it just works the way it is.

For now, it's eye candy. I'll do the super intricate stuff after it's a working ride. That's actually not far off...

I may... MAY, change it up too. Stay tuned for that. Christine is cliche and it might go a slightly different direction.

And for the tail light mounts... I'm thinking old salt shakers. Wait until you see this. Thrift stores beware.
