Ick. Orange? Back to the cop car perhaps. We'll see how it turns out.

I'm leaning towards the cop car now with the red tail lights... and it's original red police light.

Moving on...

Home from work, a little more work.

Gotta have a back wall on these fins to mount the lights... so out with some more fiberglass.

Back ends, check
Fin caps, check
2 Chevrons, check
2 lenses, check.

Time to figure out how to, and what to mount the lenses on for the right effect. (e.g. old aluminum salt shaker lids probably) Once that's done, sand sand sand... put aside. Then the front clip.

Oh, anyone that was watching a while back, that patch job using JB weld... Held. The wheel is in once piece still and I drove it pretty hard. No pics necessary there.

2nd Update:

I just had to find out... since I'm stripping it all anyway and nothing is really done, what does blue look like? A quick shot here there, put it all in place...

and now the front end is what I hate.

Let's cut that back a bit and put it where it really needs to be to be a Kart Rod. The front end must be behind the front wheels a bit... and it works better anyway.

I'm still unsure on the color because it's changed now... and... well... I'm sure we'll get there.

She's sure taking on a look though.

Screw it... some morning photoshoppin at work... it's gonna be the cop.

I thought I was running out of little places for white with the pedal car body shrinking & shrinking... but it'll work.

round & round it goes.

The semi will just be primer gray... and that works for me.

Update: Dinner & a trip to a few thrift stores turned up a few bucks worth of... well, stuff.

I think it was an egg steamer, a shot measuring thingy and a few measuring cups.

Let's see where we get with this for the tailfin light mounts.

Them quarter cup measuring thingys will be good.

Find better screws, maybe backwards with screw on points..., you know, SPIKES!

Now tear em back apart, clean em up, sand & finish them & reassemble.

If you can't find the fasteners you are thinking of, you could at least swap in stainless steel bolts with acorn cap nuts on the outside. That would look pretty cool as well.

Update... and gosh the fins are pretty.

Ended up using stainless allen cap screws for the lights... but I'm pleased.

Flat black, rubbed as it dried... patina.

Round head socket cap screws, as opposed to standard socket cap screws. And yes, they look sharp....

Update:

A whole day of just all those little things that make these rides worth it.

Scrap the trunk... why? Because when I got everything where I wanted it... I had to set the motor on it.

And I hated everything about it. It just ruined the ride.

So... no trunk, scooch that motor forward. I gotta hide it.

Oh heck yes. I'm in love. Note the inner tubes as mock up tires? The new 12 x 6 x 6's will be here tomorrow.

Sitting next to sarge... 3 inches longer and 3 inches wider. Yea.

Truth be known, they all handle pretty well actually. They're not race karts by any stretch but they all do handle very well at speed. Sure, one might think they push a bit... and they do, but when you're hunched over the front end like they're designed to do, they do grip & do their job.

They're toed out .5 degrees as well and most have negative camber. Sarge actually has about 1 degree of positive caster making the steering do quite well and will actually "kick" the rear inside wheel in the air on a hard turn. Tire prep & proper pressure ( and good tires ) will produce great results.

Call them novelties if you will, but they're 50 mph themed novelties that seem to make the kids (and most adults) at the track smile.

The cop car here, which is a tank... I have no idea what will happen... I just start with crap, find other crap to attach... with crap... then throw the artistic touch in there somewhere.

Mix thoroughly... and you get these "things."

Once it's a functional ride, then I start modifying things to make it better. I don't actually document everything I do here.

I'll strap the go pro on to sarge this weekend and take you all for a ride at Miller Motorsports Park, full speed on the drifting course... that is, if I'm not too worn out from being mechanic & pit crew for my daughter.

Cool I love the fact that they are and aren't just novelties. 50mph for sure is no novelty.
