another overhaul

Havent started on the thunder kart frontend but me and a friend did restore one of his kids carts. This is the one I posted up about that we couldnt find an axle for. That issue has been cleared up by modifying tbe rearend for a live axle. The axle kit came in Friday evening. Sunday we stripped everything off, sanded, painted, and almost reassembled except gopowersports sent us the wrong size keystock. Its sprayed with three coats of paint and 2 coats of clear. It has all new seats, new 212 predator, new clutch, and new rear tires. Ill try to get the right keystock and get some complete pics. Later guys

Pic one is our first attempt at a checkered flag
Pic two is improved checker flag
pic three is after final clear
Pic four is the new bearing hangers
*off topic*
Pic five I resurfaced the eclipse wheels

Grabbed this thunder kart for 50 bucks last night. I'm gonna rework the whole thing and give it to my nephew for his birthday. The black one I helped my friend pick up at the same place. Had to be the strangest Murray I've ever seen. Live axle. Steering on the wrong side

If you think about it.....our gokarts have the steering on the wrong side.....and the rules of the road are backwards.....

Much harder to get run over if you can see the car coming.....

I ended up with a smaller sprocket last night for my personal thunder cart. Should give a little more top end. If this thing really does get faster I feel like it may be time to don the old motorcycle helmet. I'll post results this afternoon hopefully.

I got to gps the thunder cart this morning finally. I flattened out at 43.3 mph. I believe I'm too the point where bigger Jets may be necessary. If I hold it wide open for more than about 75 to 100 yards it acts like it's running out of fuel. The carb is completely stock. Sound plausible?

If it pulls good for the first part of that 75-100 yards, then tapers off I'd say it's fuel flow to the carb from the tank; not an issue with the carb itself. Without looking back through your amazing array of cart acquisitions, is this the cart with the relocated fuel tank? Is it lower than when it was mounted to the engine?

Jim? No answer for this? No sarcasm from poboy? Are you guys sick lol

Sorry buddy! Been in and out lately....
What, if any, mods did you do? As previously stated, it sounds like fuel delivery problem. I've seen this before though, and it wasn't fuel delivery..... I think it was Tony who was talking about this, or explained it to another member.....
Let me think.....

Yes this is the one I relocated the tank on. I was a careful as possible to get the tank to the original height. If anything it may be a tad higher. Maybe the actual fuel line itself is too restrictive? I put that header pipe on it and I run it with a copper wire to my governor arm so it pulls it open at around half throttle action. All stock otherwise. If you run across that convo again Jim let me know. I'll be looking.

And it's a beast all the way until it tops out. If you hold it absolutely wide open it'll run for roughly 45 seconds before it starts to die out. At this point if I ease out of the throttle it'll pick back up after a few yards. If I just drop the throttle it will normally die out instantly. Then cranks right back if you choke it and give it a pull.

More work to rolling thunder

Got a little creative over the past few days. Had a little rare down time and this hood got kicked around in the the yard until it got too close to my cart. Just a peek. More pics when I finish it. Should be done by this weekend.

Hood mounts finished

Got my mounting brackets all finished last night. Still have to drill holes for my top hood pins. And some paint work to tie it in. Hopefully I'll paint it this evening of Saturday. I'll post up again when that gets done. Thanks for looking.
