I have a slightly modified dingo I would like to lengthen the wheel base by 3 inches. open for suggestions. hoping it will help reduce its porpoising tendencies. the extra legroom will be nice also.

If you just want legroom, the easiest way to gain it is to move the pedals forward. Stretching the frame is quite an undertaking and can compromise the structural integrity of the frame if not done properly

If you do anything poorly the end result is poor.

I agree with you, but why do something that could cause problems when you could do something much simpler.

You have not given us any indication of your skills level, what tools you have (and your ability to use them), nor even what your age is, so everyones reply to you is going to have a bit of caution involved. As i said in my previous post, the easiest, and most common, way to get more legroom is to move the pedals forward. Some people have even added on a "front porch" to their kart to achieve this.

If you do want to cut your frame in half, you can do this too. What you have to do is stagger your cuts so that they are not in line with each other. This will weaken the frame no matter what you do. You then have to get some sleeves that you are going to insert into the frame to lengthen it. The sleeves should be a nice snug fit, trying to get its outer diameter the same as the inner diameter of the frame. You would have drilled some holes in the frame so that when you insert the sleeve, you can weld thes holes shut as well as around the sleeve where it enters the frame. You might want to add some more crossmembers on the frame of your kart for some more structural integrity. Well placed gussets work as well

Here is a pick of what i am trying to explain. This is square tubing, but it works the same for round.

lets start with I'm 51 and I am pretty adept mechanically and mathematically. I understand that cutting the frame in the middle will change the angle of the outside rails. sleeving the tubes is given approach. I also stated in my first post that I wanted to lengthen the wheel base to possibly help with the porpoising tendencies of the dingo. I have added a 16 hp engine an its mass to the back side of this machine witch has amplified this.

Then what are you asking if you know how to lengthen your frame? You asked for suggestions?

I did ask for suggestions, not opinions.

What i posted was not an opinion. It was a detailed response to what you asked of us. I am sorry that you think my responses have been hostile, but they are not. I am just struggling to try and figure out what you are asking from us if you know how to do it already.

I gave you 2 ways to do what you want. Both ways are not opinions but established ways of getting more legroom

Apology

The issue here is clearly me! I do sincerely apologize. Having bad and expensive ex-wife days, not an excuse to behave like a jack***.

With that engine, you're gonna get wheelie fever very easy.
Why not move the pedals forward for more leg room. Then add on a front bumper, with a battery compartment? It would add more weight to the front, possibly alleviating the wheelie action..... ?

Hoping by extending the wheel base the porpoising is reduced to within reason and maybe just maybe the under steer balances out a bit. Believe it or not it doesn't wheelie too much. It is only a 16 horse. the switch to the 40 series torque converter was an amazing upgrade. should have done that a long time ago. It's an on going project. The thing is a blast.

Can you post a couple more pics of the kart? More specifically, one from the side, and one from a birds eye view.... I have an idea you might like, but need to see the shape of your kart first.
Gonna google to see if I find your kart and a pic of what I need....

EDIT

check that out! That's an older dingo, modified..... You could buy a cheap wrecked or just parts, chinese four wheeler (or name brand) and do the same to the front of your kart.....

I've got this! hostility noted.
Wai till you meet my friend Doug! :lolgoku: Just kidding, apology noted. We have fun here poking at each other.
I did not yet see it mentioned here that lengthening the frame even 3 inches could drastically effect the turning radius, Where it seems like you need half an acre to turn. But with 16hp I guess that may not be an issue. I usually steer with my Right foot anyway. Some thing to think about or discuss anyway.

is there enough room just to move the front wheels forward three inches, you know maybe just move the spindles forward?

Would lengthen your wheelbase without compromising the frame at all.
