I'm apprehensive about going that far for a frame, I tried KSL before to buy a laser cutter and when I went to go pick it up, they sold it to someone else without telling me, I had to buy it online instead and wasted like 30 in gas. I was planning on just going down to SLC when a cheap part comes online, right now there are a bunch of 6-15 horsepower engine, ATV tires, and random go kart parts. I was planning on just buying those cheaply now, then once a frame comes on that fits everything. Is this a decent plan?

I buy engines when I find them cheap. Even if I don't need it. Same with tires and parts. You never know what you run into, and it never hurts to have a stash of parts, even if they don't exactly fit what you are currently working on.
EDIT
If I found you a kit that had everything needed to build a frame, would you be interested? Not the small Azusa karts. This is a you weld it together kit......

I realize that, but you are also new to building. Build 2 of these. Learn the basics. It's a stepping stone to building the kart of your dreams. You have to crawl, before you walk. A lot of people jump in head first. Make some mistakes along the way, get discouraged, then quit because it seems too difficult. I only suggest this as a learning aid. And you can always modify it to have suspension.......

Hi everyone, I am thinking about buying a Sahara 250 off road go kart with the 250 cc engine replace by a Honda 650 CB. The engine is running, but is not connected to anything. The cart is faded and a bit rusted, but looks mostly intact. Whats a good price for it? Thanks for all your help! Any yes, all the picture are upside down for no known reason.

It looks like this stock, and the cheapest I can find it for new $2500. He wants $400 for it. Should I offer $300?

If you're happy with $300, then by all means! Go get it! By the pics of it, it's a project. How much are you gonna put in it, to get to be able to drive it? I try to get stuff as cheap as possible. Tell him $250.... He says no..... You say, ok how about $325..... He says yes.... You go look..... Then tell him, whoa! It needs a TON of ship to get it up and going again. Then counter with, How about $275?.... He says $300..... Tell him he will have to help load it up...... And he has a deal.....

It is most definitely a project kart. I think that I will need to repaint it, and probably a bunch of little things. Do you thing $100 is unreasonable to get it working?

For me? No...... For you? Have no idea...... Depends what it needs, what you have laying around, ..... You know, that kinda thing.....
Let me ask you this though,...... If it only needed a $100 to get it up and running, don't you think he would have fixed it, if not just to be able to sell it for more?...... :idea2:

His reason for selling it was that he has no time to work on it anymore. What parts do you think I need for it that would contribute to costs? I have very little parts lying around.

Aside from the rear swingarm, I don't see any damage to the paint, it's just faded; a good wax will remedy that...

That depends on exactly what's wrong with it; without knowing more about it, it's difficult to put a number on it; as long as it runs & there's not major problems, it shouldn't cost too much...

Ignition switches, CDI's, the stator/pickups, solenoids are all notorious for going bad in those karts. If you are going to buy it, I'd prepare to get a voltmeter if you don't have one, because if not, you can throw a lot of money in parts at it trying to get it to fire.

Oh, and BTW - regarding the original thread title - I don't know anything about collapsible go karts, but I do know a little about collapsible golf karts. The guy that owns the company I work for also owns a company that builds them. I machine a lot of parts for these:
