I thought the idea was to boil the carb in lemon juice

I add no heat.... Others might/do, but in reality, the acidic level is high enough to do the job. I see no reason whatsoever, to add heat.... Coincidentally, when soaking in lemon juice, the crap/crud kinda makes a few bubbles on the surface, not rapidly, but enough to make froth.... Like when you boil potatoes.....

From what it sounds like you need new points and condenser. I work with older Briggs engines but there should be points right behind your flywheel. If you get it off there should be a wire going into a cover take that off and get some new points and condenser.

Ummmmm....which one????? Because...I'm not a big fan of boiling. .... (affects the taste)......but I've found if you want to speed up the process. ...thd addition of alcohol can help. .....:lolgoku:

I want to give the non-boiling attempt a try.

I have an oven/stove for garage use out there, but it is buried at the moment. Plus I would need to find a pot....so we'll give the other approach a try.

Ok....just to clarify. ...the alcohol only helps if you're going to drink it.....doesn't help with the carb. ....although denatured alcohol might.....but then again. ....maybe better to do one thing at a time. ...

It could be a good thing. ...but I haven't tried it. ...it could also decrease the efficiency of the lemon juice. .....

Decrease the efficiency of the acid? I never have a problem just letting it soak in juice over night... (8-16 hours....)
Adding heat, helps break down and soften dried crud from the fuel. With a little more time, so does the acid, alone. Adding heat also intensifies the pungent odor..... :ack2:
