I picked up this carter kart frame yesterday and I'm not familiar with this type of clutch. I have a predator 212 engine for it. Can someone please help me figure out what I need to get this kart running?

You have the driven clutch from a comet 30 series torque converter. Now you just need to buy the drive clutch. If you mount the engine, you will be able to measure c to c on the shafts to know what belt you need.....
O yeah... Welcome and please fill out your location, it helps when asking for help with parts......

I'm afraid I have to disagree..

that's for sure a Torque Converter driven clutch;
but it's for sure NOT a series 30!
series 20 perhaps, more likely series 40
maybe a MaxTorque

all of the above mentioned use symmetric V-belts,
and the driven pulley can run in or outboard dependend only on the spring inside.

a series 30 is asymmetric and cannot be mounted inboard like on your kart.

Also, that driven needs an overhaul...
the cam is obviously not resting against the buttons, so it needs to be preloaded again, and the snapring needs to be replaced.
maybe new buttons, new lubrication most likely, and if there's rust it has to be removed ;)

Thank you all. I just got the motor on and I'm reading through the comments wondering if I'm in over my head. I'm assuming the driven is the silver part still attached to the kart?

Good eye, Sid... I think you're right... 20. i didn't notice the symmetrical sheaves. OOPS

No problem, I think that's exactly why we ask our questions in a forum...
the poly eye control ;)
and the next time I miss something, I'm sure you'll step in and see it.
In this case it's hard to verify the sheave angles.. but it's inboard... so that gave it away for me.

pmo, well if that's your cam, it's for sure a series 20
that part (the other piece) is a comet 20° cam,
and you can only find it on series 20 and series 30 Torque converters.

spare parts (like the missing driver)
can be found here:
http://gokartsupply.com/symapp.htm
or here:
http://www.mfgsupply.com/gomini/gominiclutch/gominiclutchtorq/gominiclutchtorq20.html

just to name the first two that come to my mind ;)

Me too. ...but even though I've learned a ton....I hesitate to advise....as I feel like I don't make a pimple on some of these guys butts when it comes to knowledge concerning karts..... (I just lurk in the shadows. ....waiting and plotting for the day they slip up......{insert Renfield laugh here.....Hee hee hee haw haw}.....:stir:)

You might be in over your head, BUT we are gonna pull you up, so you can breathe easy......
What you have, is half of a torque converter system. It's like a variable gear ratio automatic transmission for a go kart. You are missing the drive clutch.
You actually have 2 options here, depending on how big your budget is and how much diy you got in you. You can buy the drive clutch and a new belt, set it up and have some fun. The torque converter needs to be serviced/cleaned every 5_8hours of use, for proper function and belt longevity.
The other route would be to pull the driven clutch off, and put a standard sprocket. Then buy a $35 cent clutch (with free chain) and put it all together as a jackshaft assembly. Might be cheaper and you will still have loads of fun.
Keep the driven, for later, when you want "more" from your kart...... By then, you have enough bread saved up to buy all the parts you need to utilize the torque converter.
For future use...... CC or c c or cent clutch all refer to a centrifugal clutch (standard clutch used on street/yard karts)
TC stands for torque converter.....
See, you learned something already...... :wai:

I decided to go with option1-parts came in today. My other go kart is a centrifugal clutch to a sprocket on the axle...is that a jackshaft as well?

Any words of wisdom putting this all back together?

Itsid mentioned
"the cam is obviously not resting against the buttons, so it needs to be preloaded again,"
How do I go about doing that?

well, get us a better picture of the driven unit (sideways and front)
to see what spring is in there.

but let's assume it's the correct spring.

having the driven still mounted to your kart, mount a chain and let someone hold the kart,
so that it can't move.
place the spring ends in the holes on the outer sheave(moveable face) and hole 2(default) in the cam
(cam is the big piece in post#7)
without tensioning the spring move it towards the sheave just before you cannot rotate it because of the hills and valleys of cam and sheave.
turn the sheave counterclockwise passed the buttons and into the next valley.
that should tension the spring, not loosen it up based on it's winding;
(or it's the wrong spring I'm afraid)
now move the came fully in and fix it with the circlip.
release the sheave and the cam should rest against the buttons.
if it slips past the buttons they're worn out and you need to order a new set I'm afraid.

yes, exactly like that

But one thing.. you really should remove the rust from the sheaves,
that will eat on your belt, and belts aren't exactly cheap...
So clean it up (do not lube!) but make em nice and smooth;
looks like some scotch brite will do the trick for you, even without disassembly ;)
