My guess is that the wear and tear on his old TC has reduced its performance and his speed is limited.
Are you sure it's not the belt that is wearing out?
Right now it has the old 30 series comet torque converter on it. I just got a brand new belt (very high quality belt) and it didn't change a thing. It only works half the time. Sometimes I will be at full throttle and going 8 mph then the driver expands a little and takes off. Sometimes I will be at full throttle taking off and the kart wont even move. My max speed is MABEE 20 mph.
First off, before you go spend your cash on something you don't need, give your existing tc a good clean. There is a sticky thread in the clutch section on how to do this. Please also post some pics of the clutch, and give us the tooth counts on the tc sprocket and axle sprocket. We can then see if your gearing is maybe out of wack
that's not the converter.. with a ratio like that (looks to be a ratio made for 3hp engines)
your kart's max speed (with 15" wheels) will be 21.14 mph for a governed (3.6k rpm) engine.
A new TC will not help anything!

with a Tav2 kit and 18" wheels you'll hit 25.37mph not 35
with a governed engine that is.
So still: It is NOT the TC
There is room to imporove I guess, but to know for sure we NEED pictures of your engine, TC, and wheel chain setup at least.

That gives you a ratio of 8.4:1
You are not going to go fast at all with that ratio. Pics please. A new tc won't help much. You are going to have to change hearing slightly
The tav2 has a lower ratio. I need a new torque converter anyway so i might as well get one with a lower ratio.The torque converter now desent work rite. The driven does not open up at all so the ratio is higher. A 12t on the driven will get it up to at least 30. Im just asking which torque converter is better and will last longer.

Okay. I was going to take a pic of the converter and i took one with the cover on and was taking the cover off and my phone dide. By the time i got it past 5% it was too dark. Ill for sure take on tommorow.Heres what i got.

With that jackshaft mount, it might have a 7" driven for even lower gearing.

You need a 6:1 ratio and at least a 5 hp engine and will go 35 mph with 18" tires. The driven unit must be 6" diameter to achieve this.
Pull off your torque converter cover and measure the distance between the center of the engine shaft and the center of the Jackshaft. Double check that you have the right size.

I have both those torque converters, they seem the same to me. You don't need the bolt on backplate either since you already have the Jackshaft setup on your kart.

I know I have the rite one cause it had a manco #5959 belt and we went and got another 5959 belt. Its supposed to be a really good belt. It was 35$. Its a Kevlar belt. I looked and a 6 inch driven unit is 90$ plus 30$ for the weight assembly and Im gonna get a 12t for the jackshaft. That should get me fixed up.
What does hearing have to do with the top speed he is going to get?
