oh, crap, i didn't see that. yeah, you can't use a T2 30 series torque converter on a 13hp motor. you'll be burning up belts left and right, unless you gear it for like 20 mph. lol. time to drop the big bucks and get a 40 series. there's usually a decent deal on them on ebay. :)

27mph isn't really that slow when you're off-roading it. but yeah, i'd try to get it up to around 35mph top speed. that'll still give you a good speed/torque ratio.

They SAY that they are rated for 13HP, but they inreality are not. Those TC's are just knock-off of genuine Comet 30 series TC's. A genuine comet is only rated for 8HP. Anything over that and you burn belts at a rapid pace.

You can try your TC, but I am pretty sure that you are going to be severely dissapointed in it. It is just not engineered to handle the 13HP. If you gear REAL low, you might get away with it.

Sorry

u are operateing in the upper limits of its range

so it will work but it will wear out quick

also these are the rateings of a comet 30 series
this isnt a comet 30series
its a knock off, theres nothing wrong with it but it isnt as good as the origonal

as i said itll work but wear belts quick
ask the company u brought it off if u can exchange it
or try to sell it locally

EDIT
dam landuse beat me to it, just, ha

i bet they will guarantee u it'll handle 13 then when u break it they'll say u abused it
or something like that

Can someone please tell me all of the parts and peices I need to order for the Comet 40....please......:mad2:

The driver and driven are bought seperately. You then have to manufacture a jackshaft for the driven at an exact belt distance away from the driver. Look at the belt chart HERE to see the distances you can use. A specific belt goes with a specific distance

U will need a jack shaft as the 40 doesn't have a backing plate

Then u will need a belt that suits your distance from the engine and jack shaft

There will be a chart that will decifer the belt size
Go with a mid sized belt
U will need a new sprocket for the jack shaft

If u already have an axle sprocket that's a 40 then u are set their?

What is the shaft size on the engine
1 inch?

Yes 1", so if I understand....since I am starting from scratch the belt size is up to me?

Does anyone have any picks of how to install the jackshaft?
Also anyone got any part numbers just don't want to order the wrong thing again.

I dont think they still exist as a company any more. They were bought out I think?

If you can try to fit a longer belt if you can because that will help keep it cool and make it last longer.

Ok, so desperately need help here.....any pics would be VERY helpfull, Since COMET does not exist anymore I will go with GTC, and a 40 series...BUT GTC does have a jackshaft plate kit, has anyone installed that kit before.

http://gtcmanufacturing.com/GTC-Jackshaft-Gear-Reduction-Kit-Gokart.aspx

I called them and they said it would work, just double checking.

That kit is only rated for about 7 HP. The distance between the driver and driven might also not be what you need. 5/8" is also pretty flimsy for the engine you are going to use. All you need is a couple of pillow block bearings and some solid steel tube for the jackshaft. Have a look at mckutzy's mini bike build for an idea on how to make a jackshaft. It will also be a lot cheaper and more adjustable

There are also lots of comet 40 series parts on eBay
