Hoping to make it as well. Probably have to hit a junkyard or two first- and I'm hoping I can snag my neighbor's lift- laying in the dirt just makes working on cars suck that much more.

I'm getting excited as well. That scenery reminds me so much of Texas. :lolgoku:

Post away Kelly!

Did the first actual go-kart work in the garage today since the GGR. Had my first visitor too. He was excited at the possibilities he saw to say the least. Gonna be some magic happening around here day after tomorrow!

Ok, great.

What else did you envision for me? Gotta "visualize" things on my end.

And, Happy Holidaze... to all.

For SHAME on me..... Ive ignored this thread thinking it was just to try and sell a book. Im embarrassed.... Excuse the pun, You cant judge a book by its cover....

This is totally awesome. To have a movie about karts is great. Helps to keep the interest/hobby alive. I havent really sat down to read a book for enjoyment since high school. After reading all of this, I think I will buy the book for my son, and then read it ..... lol
These antics of riding the rails reminds me of riding in the huge city storm drains under ground in DeSoto Missouri. Ironically, thats the home of MoPac's rail car repair facility.
Good luck on this movie. I cant wait to see it. This is the first thread I intentionally subscribe to....

All good Jim. I am spamming a little but all only to make this thing come to fruition. Hoping to further interest in the hobby and bring a little youthful magic back for parents and kids to share. Also want to sell a line of parts an accessories eventually to fund production. "Buy all out playsets and toys!"

Santa wants to see this series too! They are WV plates because that is where it's set. I lived in two states growing up and there was always a personalized bike plate rack specific to that state. See if you guess which plate goes with which kart.

That's it I reckon. My vision is kinda boring compared to yours. Wait, how about a bumper? I'm thinking of stealing Daisy's front porch for the Bandit so you could fiddle with her front end;)

Also, if you run out of things to do, I have another sad sack of crap you could go crazy on....

Good idea. I'm going to come around when you get here. You keep Dennis occupied with gokart talk and I'll sneak around the side of his house and steal a chicken and throw it on his smoker....:lolgoku:

Looking forward to meeting you.

Check out the kart I got for FREE!

Dennis. ......Dennis. .....Somebody get some smelling salts!!!!! Dennis. ....I was kidding!!!!!!

Here's the kart tha Krate gave me to purty up for the series. I'll be documenting progress and posting up pictures. I got it yesterday and it was almost dark when I loaded it. Both Orange Krate and I thought this thing was ready to go- just a little spit and polish. I found out different in the daylight when I disassembled it.

OK- So before I even started tearing down I noticed that the left side of the axle was bent back. When I got the tie rods out of the way I noticed it was also bent in and down in the middle. When I flipped the kart I saw the weld was cracked and the deck was buckled up.

I thought I was going to have to cut the axle off and replace it and as a noob welder, not something I was comfortable with on someone else's kart- especially another member'swife's kart.

But after a half hour of gentle (yeah right) persuasion with a BFG, I had it looking pretty straight. I started to try to dolly out the deck in place but decided to angle grind the welds and peel the deck off with a cold chisel.

After a bunch more hammering the axle is only about 1/16" from being dead straight and the deck is ready to weld back on and Bondo.

In case you're wondering- I typed the above post twice and lost it adding pictures so that's the reason for the double post. So pics:

Man! I could get used to logging in and seeing someone else doing all my builds for me. Lol! Looking good Poboy! Above and beyond my expectations.

Now for a little fun. Started on a little stunt rigging idea I been kicking around for oh, 8 years or so. Yes, you may have seen my video with the floor jack burnout rig. The is the 2.0 version of that. I call it the Power Brake.

While the General is under construction I decided to go ahead and get him rigged. All scripts call for burnouts by the stars so Rockford, Bullitt and Bandit will get the treatment as well....if it works (and I think it will.)

So here's how it works. When a burnout shot comes up, the (pre-set-up) rig pins in in seconds. On the wheel opposite the camera is a scrub brake. That wheel also gets changed out for a dummy, bearing wheel. Just behind, and hidden by the on camera wheel is an adjustable training wheel. Unhook the regular brakes and run the rigging rod to the brake pedal. And viola! You have a one wheel wonder!

Hold the brake pedal down and it power brakes the scrub into dummy wheel while the training wheel holds the drive wheel ever so slightly off the ground. Hit the gas and make her spin. Let off the brake gradually for the desired lengthy of burnout.

CUT! And remove the rigging. When not needed, inconspicuous tabs hang down under the frame.

I mocked it up with all-thread. Gotta get some 3/4" shaft to drill and pin it next week.

I did a little sanding this morning. They have showers/ sprinkles- whatever, in the forecast for tomorrow. I hope not- all my mechanics tools are out in the elements at the moment. I found another problem- (minor and cosmetic-wreck related) but I want to fix it. It's visible in the second picture in the set above but I'm not going to say what it is yet except it's bent and I don't want to use the BFH on it.

Anyway- i'll be tackling it in the morning and at least one other issue and welding/sanding, little Bondo- glazing putty- primer, whatever. ....

If you mean the push bar being bent you don't have to straighten it. It's just going to ram into Rockford in episode 4. We can just make sure the stunt driver hits with the high side;)

Yeah- that was it. Let's see- I don'thave to straighten it........Hmmmm- seems like that would apply to everythingI'm doing on this kart!

WOW- Progress has slowed to a crawl. .....IDK- I keep staying up until 4 am and getting up before 8. I'm a little tired right now, but it's this weather that doesn't help. I'm getting too old for this crap. It really doesn't matter, I just wished I could have shot it yesterday, when the temps were in the 60's- but there's still a lot of prep.

Still got 1 1/2 small issues to deal with on the frame. But the real work is prep.I'm half tempted to bring the frame in and prep it in the living room. ......

But it's getting close and I have a bunch of other stuff to do- so, it's all good.

Just some random thoughts: Hope I'm not intruding.

If I were doing that ride, give it a little tiny bit of flair to accentuate what the car was...

Find a crappy LTD... and..., or, something that resembles door handles.

Here's a crappy photoshop job.

Make the bumper silver. It's a big ole thing on the car, and this kart seems to have it to work with.

On the sides, put flat sides & some door handles, make it appear to be the 4 door.

And the back pieces. Maybe they could be taller, pic 2

Just some thoughts. Take it or leave it.
