Huh? Dual axle? You mean dead axle..... Yes, with some minor fabbing, you can convert to live axle. Not that hard....
I dont remember, but if you have a band brake, yes you can convert to disc. But why? I have a band brake on my single seat live axle kart. From full speed, I can stomp the brake and turn the kart 180° in a snap! I can lock up the back tires from full speed too.... Band brakes are pretty good (i prefer hydraulic disc) and just need to be maintained. When its wore out, even irregularl, buy a new band..... No REAL need to get disc ......
But we shall see what the others say....

No, I meant like I have a live axle right now but should I keep it or change it to where there's 2 different axles so turning would be better because when I turn sharp it continues to go straightforward really work. It's like band is frozen stiff. And the band brake doesn't work on mine I keep tightening it. And

Nevermind about changing it to a split axle to much work but can I stop making it continue forwards when I turn sharp?

Are you talking about a differential??

We'll I was told by someone locally it would involve lots of welding plus you have to supply power to both sides and have the ration and all that stuff the same. Is this true or can I make it turn better without doing this

You probably have bad steering geometry. Yerf dogs aren't known for their geometry. Have a look at THIS thread. Post some pics of the front end of your kart, showing the wheels straight, and also at full turn to the one side.

Regarding the diff, your sprocket would be bolted onto the diff itself, so you don't need to power both sides.

Most definitely; from what I can see in your pics, there's no ackermann, toe, caster or camber; the last two you can do without but, to have any steering at all, you need the first two...

However, that probably means you'll need dual brakes...

Not if you have the brake caliper bolted to the diff

No, the brake caliper is attached to the frame, the brake disc is attached to the axle... ;)

Having said that, if the brake is attached to the diff housing, it will only react to the housing, not the individual axles; If you put a diff in a vice, it's still very easy to turn the axles...

Ok so right now I have a live axle with a sprocket and a band brake and maybe other things what do I need to do in order to make a split axle I have no idea what u guys are talking about its like your speaking Chinese or something

Is the diff like what goes over the split crack of both axles

Stick with the live axle..... Diffs blow.....
Sounds to me, like previously stated, you need serious steering help... My live axle kart did that real bad when I first got it. ESPECIALLY at speed.... I played with the steering set up and its a lot better. Touchy, butbetter. It will dig and turn right great, but left lacks a little grip. I noticed yesterday that my right front tire looks as if it may have a slight upward bend, wich would explain why that tire will slide at speed instead of dig and turn.....
Check your steering out. Dont cost nothing to fix up, and you might fix your problem. Post the pics requested, and we can go from there.

:iagree: All the karts Ive personally seen, with diffs, had dual rear brakes. I could be wrong though, that not all diff set ups are dual brake. Lawn tractors have a diff but only one brake as far as i know....

Well, depends on the diff..
The Northern tool diff for example is perfectly okay with the brake disc mounted to it, just like the sprocket.
So both wheels will slow down, not just one ;)

I think you can see that kind of setup in the dune cat thread.. AFAIK there's a picture of a diff with sprocket and brake disc.
