what is the best way to hook up a kill switch ? I have a wire running from my coil up to under the steering wheel hooked on one end of a two prong switch. the other prong has a wire that I screwed to the frame of the kart, but for some reason, it won't crank with it hooked up. am I doing something wrong ?

okay, I got it working now. I will take some pics of the kart and post tomorrow to see if anyone may have some suggestions to make it better. thanks for everyone's help. I haven't driven it yet and I have a feeling that the sprocket may be to small, but there's no room to make it any bigger. you'll see when I post the pics. thanks again...

well..... how do I upload photos ? I was just trying and it told me to enter a URL... can I upload direct to here somehow ? I got my tire sizes too... all four of them are 4.10/3.50-5 and I did a real quick count on my sprocket and it's approx. between 40 and 50 something. Thanks...

haven't gotten that yet.... where's a good place to look for one ? I found one on ebay for like 15 bucks, but I don't know what's good and what's not.

yeah, I've got the stock one, but the way I've changed stuff on the engine around, it won't work anymore. there's a spring in the way now. I'd rather have one of the cone types anyhow. another thing though... if I do put a billet rod in that thing, what are the chances of me messing something up ? would something need adjusting afterward, or would I at least need to use a torque wrench maybe ? I just hate to think about taking it apart that far and ruining it.

well ive never done rods before but chances are it shouldnt be to big of a deal. if it runs nice now without problems i wouldnt worry about it. just make sure u dont mess up timing and stuff. If u want to really speed things up, the 5 HP brigs engines are great cus all u gotta do is slap a 4 HP Briggs head on it and ur compression is up. I know i guy who did it. The 4 HP and 5 HP heads are compatible but the 4 has a smaller combustion chamber hence Higher compression. It does wonders.

yeah, I've heard mixed feelings about doing that. some people says it doesn't work a bit, while others say it's great. how could you mess up the timing on one of these motors ? I know the cam gear and the gear on the crank have dots on them that you have to line up when messing with that stuff.... what else could throw the timing off ?

You need a adapter for that carb, it was designed for a 2 bolt foam filter box, most flathead carbs are made for a slip on paper cartridge. Come up with an adapter to fit a clamp on a buy a cheap(but good) UNI foam filter.

You really only need a billet rod if you are using stiffer valve springs, and if your using stiffer valve springs you are exceeding the design limits of the flywheel so it must also become billet.

oh okay.... I was thinking about getting the billet flywheel anyhow, but once you start talking about springs and stuff, it makes me not wanna mess with the internals anymore. I know I'd probably screw something up. I still haven't even driven that kart. should it be fast by the looks of the sprocket and tires ? and another thing ? what makes a clutch explode ? I had one of these before that wasn't on a kart or anything, but one day I cranked it and was reving it up and the clutch exploded and about broke one of my friends fingers... I'm all nervous now that it could happen again.

Defective, possibly from spinning without load. Running an engine at high RPM with no load IS HELL on it, it like constantly hammering on the internals(and the clutch on the shaft) a workload smooths this out. I would contact whoever made the clutch that blew, might a get a couple extra clutches out of it.

It was an older clutch... no idea who made it. that would be nice though. if I'm gonna be just on the street with that kart, do I really need an air filter ? wouldn't it run better without it ?

Do you think it's better to be sucking in dirt or no dirt? I think you should just buy a air filter! There's dirt flying around everywhere you just cant see.
