Since it doesnt really pertain to an engine as much as some other parts putting it here.

Feel free to move to the engines forum.

I am wondering what would be the best air filter to get. A hi flow that still is good at...well its job as a filter. I want a higher flow than stock but still being good at filtering

EDIT: its for a predator 212cc. what jet size would i need to go to after filter mod and exhaust mod

K&N are supposed to be the best but, someone more local may have another idea.

The biggest problem is the size of the neck which will need an adaptor

Hello- From my limited experience with the Predator engine they are jetted lean right out of the box. By changing the header and intake it will need a richer jet. Do you have some way of measuring the original jet? I use straight pins, paper clips of various sizes to determine the jet size. Find the one that goes thru & measure it with a micrometer or vernier calipers. As a start go up .002. Check your spark plug for a brown color on the insulator. My spark plug was installed way too tight. I had to use a cheater bar on my 3/8" ratchet to break mine loose. I had to remove the valve cover so the socket would sit correctly on the spark plug.

I'm not surprised- helps keep the emissions freaks at bay.

FWIW- I drill my own jets, and a set of precision drills can be had pretty cheap. Not only will they perform the obvious (drilling), but I use them to gauge sizing, too. Insert the bits shank first to find the size.

I can't believe that plug was in so tight! Obviously, there's some underpaid 5-year-old overseas that still hasn't gotten hisself a torque wrench.

You want precision bits, #61-#80. Do you have a Northern Tool or Harbor Freight you can check at? I got a couple sets at Princess Auto. Otherwise, cruise the 'net and Fleabay.

Don't forget to shop out a pin vise while you're at it. A pin vise is the small, pen-like drill that you use to actually do the drilling. These bits are too fine for power drills.

:wai: HF use to carry pin vises and they came with 3 or 4 number drill bits. Pin vises are also called jewlers drill. As far as air filters, I use UNI if running on asphalt take the outside red cover off, if running on dirt leave the red cover on. If I am not mistaken, those running clones use the same filter adapter as the GX 160/200 Hondas.

Not to jack this thread but I can tell you after 40 years of building engines from off and on road Gas,Diesel, small and large two and four stroke racing engines K&N filters suck dust through them and if you think I am full of it I challenge anybody that has a K&N filter that has been subject to dusty conditions to pull their filter off and do the good old white rag wipe inside their intake trac and tell me what you see? Putting all the hype and BS behind them they cannot and do not keep the dust out of engines that are subject to dusty conditions.I have had nothing but excellent results using foam air filters from race bikes to off road racers where there is so much dust you can hardly even see to ride or drive as long as you use the correct air filter oil on the filters which is foam filter oil such as Bel Ray Foam Filter Oil DO NOT USE NO TOIL OIL on foam filters that stuff dries out and lets dust come right through them I have rebuilt many race bike engines that were dusted and ruined by that stuff and on a four stroke bike engine it costs anywhere from 1500.00 to 2500.00 USD to rebuild them when it is all done correctly.
Just my two cents.

that is some much needed wording on the air filters. i was trying to remember what brand was the crap brand that had alot of problems. so now i know to stray far away from K&N

You see what air filter is on my rare wankel engines not to be a know it all but I have seen it many times I would not use a K&N on my lawnmower you ought to see the faces of the people that think that their K&N is doing such a good job even on the street when they see what has passed through their filters and what they can see is just what you can wipe out of the intake their engines have ate alot more than they will ever know and the engines life has been shortened don't just take my word for try it some time for yourself and you will see!
