best air filter to get?

The filters I use that clamp on carburetors are Uni's dual and or single stage foam air filters the most important thing with using them is to prep them correcty for use that being said I always wash them in a solvent and them wash them in hot water with dawn dish washing soap or liquid tide to remove all of the solvent left in the filter and then I wring and tap them out gently and let the filter air dry after the filter is dry I have found the best foam air filter oil to use is Bel Ray Foam Air Filter Oil and I saturate the filter with the oil and then I squeeze out the excess oil into a funnel and back into the filter oil bottle Then I degrease the rubber mounting surface and the carburetor air filter mounting surface with brake clean or degreaser so that no oil residue is left on the areas so the filter does not slide off the carb during operation do not use that tree hugger NO TOIL stuff like I said that sh#t is just that sh#t I have had my filters on my race bikes packed with dust so bad after a desert race that you would cringe with the thought of removing them and find the engine dusted out only to find that everything from the filter and beyond perfectly clean and one word of caution when using a foam or gauze filter if you ever tip over or your float needle sticks or gets something in it to flood the carb and gas flows out into your filter it will wash the oil out of your filter and then dirt and or dust will pass right through your filter and into your engine.
On My race bikes I use the stock KTM foam air filters and or Twin Air foam filters.
Do not use filter oil that is for gauze type filters on foam air filters that does not work!

:thumbsup: Your statement is very true. Everyone thinks that an expensive filter is the berries. Most of the new karters that come out to the track, started with K&N's, but switched to UNI's after it was proven to them the amount of dirt or pavement grit that was ingested thru the K&N.

Desertduler- I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences with us on this topic. It really does make you think twice about what your engine might be inhaling. I saw some cheaps:censored:t filters at an auto parts store recently. They were clearly being marketed to drips with lowered Hondas sporting fart cans and obnoxios stereos. Even at a glance I could tell that they were marginally better than chicken wire for filtration.

Their are alot of jaw flappin bs in this world along with people that follow one another like sheep if we can help one another to sort this stuff out I am all for it and I most certainly do not claim to know it all by any means but by our own paths in life we can share some of our knowledge with each other and become smarter how's that?

That's dead-on. If I had a nickel for every time I have had to address that stupid governor/flywheel myth, I'd be a very rich man!
