Wondering how good they are? Been looking at some 5.25 inchers for the front of the previa! The **** magnets are as big as teh speaker itself

And Xplods, my VR3 200W amp is just temporary, a Xplod 1000W is on its way :)

And does anyone know what "bridging" is?

amplifier bridging is using 2 channels of an amplifier to drive a common load. For 2 channel amplifiers one left signal and one right signal is used to drive a mono speaker load. Remember that mono and bridging are not always the same. Mono means that there's only one output signal.

Xplods and Blaupunkts are kind of mainstream car audio equipment, not the best but they're ok.

Bridging is pretty much what Jr said. You usually bridge an amp when you want to use it to drive a sub. A monoblock is an amp that only has one channel and is normally used for driving subs.

When bridging an amp, you use two channels and you get about double the power. Say you have a 4-channel amp with 4-50W outputs, you can bridge two pairs of outputs together and basically have 2-100W outputs.

The amps' outputs are usually marked as to which ones can be bridged.

When looking at amps, keep in mind that they'll be labeled something like "1000W Max!", "1000 music power" or something ridiculous like that. The actual power output will be much less than that. You want to look for the RMS power output as that's the true amount of sustained power you can get.

Take a look here: http://www.bcae1.com/

That site has lots of info that you might find interesting.

I did a lot of research before putting together the system in my car. Was told by EVERYONE that the aptly named "Xplodes" are pretty much the worst speakers you can get. Never heard of Blaupunkt
I went with Pioneer and JBL.

Ditto on the RMS rating, don't match speakers and amp from the MAX power outputs because it is not a true rating of the power required.

*EDIT* It's also best to have more power in the amp than the speakers require so you don't get "clipping" of the signal. More power is less likely to damage the speakers than not enough power.

Cool... I'm bridging on a crappy amp :roflol:

Knew that. Xplodes are overrated, but their great for their price IMO.

Xplodes are not the best, no doubt about it, but there are much worse ;) Like the $20 VR3 400W ones.

Well the Xplod 1000W amp should take care of it :)

RMS was learned a long time ago :D

But in your honest opinion, for $35, is a Xplod 1200W 10" woofer worth it? I already have it, it's GREAT, but IDK how "better" speakers sound.

But then again, I've never heard Kickers or JBL's in real life.

Would a video help :)?

Here's a video of the same type of subs I used to have before they got stolen, except my box wasn't ported. It would do the same thing though to stuff on the roof. I have a video somewhere on my computer where I put my cell phone on the roof and played the THX sound while it was recording video.

Lol those are some nice speakers there. I saw on Myth-Busters once where they where at a sound competition and the cars needed like 5/8 botls to keep the doors shut, And like 1 inch plexiglass windows.

I dont understand how anyone can enjoy that.

Well, just cuz you got 'em don't mean you have to play them at full volume all the time. I didn't. There are those people though that think that just cuz you got subs you have to blast them everywhere you go, that's a no-no to me.

They certainly make a difference though when listening to music, even at low volume. You get more of a full spectrum of frequencies, and some you couldn't hear or even know where there until you added a sub.

I added a sub to my gf's old car and she told me that right away she noticed that there were things in her music that she'd never heard before. When she was going to buy her new car, she asked me if I could install a sub in it because she knew that it would sound crappy without one, but it turns out the car already came with one stock and she was more than happy with that.

Most people my age group love this, but I can't stand it. SO annoying! I just wanted a little bass to fill out the sound of the music and got talked into getting a 12" JBL 250rms sub. Way overkill, and it takes up my entire boot (Toyota Echo Sportivo), but it does fill out the music perfectly.
Also got an amp really cheap for it. A 2 channel 600rms, but no problems so far with a 250rms sub and 600rms amp.

An Xplod will probably be just as loud as any other sub (for a while), so if that's all you want then it is great! However there IS a big difference in sound quality of the different subs. If you listen to an Xplod and a good pioneer then you can hear the difference in pitch quite clearly, but if you haven't heard a good quality sub you won't care. If it sounds good to you then that's all that matters.

I got ya, no problem with a little extra speaker but people who run em so loud you can hear the car before you see it just pisses me off.
