I've come to the conclusion that engineers drink on the job. American engineers have the occasional beer or whiskey. German engineers keep kegs under their desks :toetap05:

And they dam well deserve to.
I had a data entry job for the quality control section of a automotive parts factory and the pressure that is put on the engineers there could be immense at times. There was on average 23 minor and 2 "mid-sized" issues per day I believe and at least 2-3 major issues per week that involved internal recalls and sorting of large #'s of parts. Most of the time there was not enough time in the day to solve all the issues.

I also learned to hate desk jobs that summer.

some of the stuff u see when trying to fix machines
eg transmission pump on a cat 988 loader is the latest

firstly who desgined that to be in that position, i nearly walked out in frustration just trying to get it out

secondly who stood back and went "yes iv done a good job that works great"

never mind having the ocasional drink i think they follow the Beetles and take all kinds of substances for insparation

and yep bmw make some nice cars with some features that took the rest of the world a few years to include
yours looks pretty good too

but they have cleverly made it so u have to take it back to the dealer to get it fixed and it will cost u the value of the dam car

i stay away from anything european for that reason

Well, I don't know what the jap engineers are on then...

Just last week I had to replace the high pressure power steering pipe on my V6 Camry. Where did the pipe run? From the left side of the radiator towards the firewall, along the firewall under the intake manifold, then down into the top of the pump which is hidden at the bottom rear corner of the engine bay.

No, of course the pump couldn't be mounted at the front where there's lots of room & easy access, that would be too simple

At least they actually put the oil filters smack on the BOTTOM of the engine, unlike the "American" manufacturers.

I understand what the differences are. And anyways, I was just kinda kidding, no one should be drinking on the job.

At least they actually put the oil filters smack on the BOTTOM of the engine, unlike the "American" manufacturers.

Either way their a pain in the but to change when they are in boats ( Brilliant idea by the way, take a automotive engine and toss it in a boat without any changes made /sarcasm) You're basically doing a headstand in the doghouse/engine bay in order to even touch the filter let alone see it.
The volvo's and 3.4's were the worst if i remember right.

All engines with a oil filter should have it remotely mounted.

actually they serve beer at luch time at the porsche factory. My old porsches are great though. very easy to work on and well designed . hell they never need fixing anyway 30 and 40 years old they still have most of their original parts. Sura wouldnt buy a new one though. I hear the new bmws dont even have a dipstick you have to scan the computer to know how much oil is in it!

well when i first got the car i thought i heard a little ticking noise but it wasnt loud at all. i even asked the guy and he said it sounds normal. i think it got a little louder, my friend listened to it and he said it has a lifter tick. this weekend gonna take off the valve cover and check on the clearances.

well when i first got the car i thought i heard a little ticking noise but it wasnt loud at all. i even asked the guy and he said it sounds normal. i think it got a little louder, my friend listened to it and he said it has a lifter tick. this weekend gonna take off the valve cover and check on the clearances.

Checking the clearance will be easy. Good luck adjusting them . Hope they are within spec, or you'll have to get the bucket shims out. If they are hydraulic lifters? Can't remember now.
