my neighbor bought a ummmmm kart ?

so he rides this thing over and asked me if i would work on it for him. lets just say i would have kept the motor and tossed the rest.

not sure what he paid but i would have walked away from the seller laughing.

swingarm setup, its a cylinder from an office chair.

brakes are hacked up scrubber with a lift handle, only on the free wheelin side so when throtle sticks hang on.

steering has a mower rack and pinion with cut and welded rods.

Yikes man, that thing looks like crap and i bet scarry to ride. I am amazed it hasnt fallen apart already, hahaha An completely rebuild it properly and safely, what size motor is on the go cart. Good luck

Man, I would smack the guy for buying it, and you don't want to know what I would do to the builder! Sure enough, the engine is worth the $250, but if I was the buyer, I would have IMMEDIATELY taken the engine off, and broke out the ol' Sawzall!

I personally think that the kart has been well engineered, and the builder has made good use of strong and sturdy parts that will probably last forever. I would definately have paid the $250 (maybe a bit more) for that work of art. If you ask me, it looks like it is actually factory made.....

From the pic it looks like it has at least one Manco wheel and pedals. If the drive wheel has the Manco sprocket spacer that's another good piece.If the motor's good that's another plus.
Yeah, it's junk but it does have some parts value....nowhere near $250, though.

it makes me think of the eposode of that pimp my ride show i saw today where they had a ford cortina in that was two cars that were cut and joined with liquide nails and a few bad welds

He wants me to grind and fix all the welds,
replace all the steering linkage and the rack & pinion since you need to turn the wheel too much to make a turn.
Build a safe brake system,
Redo the throttle linkage which is half rod and half cable setup that binds everywhere,
Replace the front tires,
Replace the rear wheels that the axle stubs have washers welded on to hold them on,
Center the front end since the wheels are 1" offset to one side from the main frame

Basically build a new kart

No- you see adjustable ride height. If you're in front of a computer. I see a cheapspit gas shock that I personally guarantee will blow out in short order. It's a cool concept, I'll give the guy that much. In practical application, it WILL fall short.

Naw. Clapped out office chairs are as plentiful as rats in a ghetto on garbage day. You'd pay big money for a GOOD shock unit.

That was a Ford Escort (similar to what we know as a laser). Do you know how hard it is to join two halves together like that?

Basically build a new kart

You should do just that & charge him like $500; that'll teach him
