for your first one, (and since you already bought it) keep it, and run it hard for a while. You can always upgrade later.

That should work fine, a lot of us run 5 - 8 hp industrial engines and they work perfectly. Speed and torque all depends on gearing.
Could you give us the:
- # of teeth on clutch
- # of teeth on axle sprocket
- size of rear tire.
