Now- The specific question...

If you turn your fuel valve on and walk away 5-10 minutes, does it start drooling gas out of the carb? Or does gas only come out when trying to start?

If it does it all the time, I bet your fuel inlet valve or float (inside carb) are the problem. If it ONLY does it when trying to start, I think you've got a valvetrain problem. See comments regarding inspecting the rockers...

How long has it been doing this? Did something happen when it started doing this? Have you tried to adjust, alter, or modify anything on the engine?

take it into a shop

yea i can but that defeats the purpose of DIY

In that case, get a workshop manual & read it thoroughly!

I don't mean to be cruel, but if you're having problems identifying basic parts of the engine, you're going to have bigger problems when you attempt to fix it.

I applaude the fact that you want to have a go but, you need to have a general idea first. I suggest, before you touch your engine, that you get some text books & educate yourself

Ok, so far I haven't seen any mention of what brand of engine it is, nor have we seen a close up pic of the engine or engine. Although all engines are essentially the same, they do have their differences; you need to post pics so we can determine what to do.

Help us help you

by the sounds of your questions it really sounds like you could use some expert help. either find someone that has some small engine knowledge, or take it to a shop. ask them if you can watch and don't mind answering some questions. if you don't know where or what a carb is - that's a pretty good indicator that you need some professional help. :roflol:

plus, carbs can be pretty tricky and tempermental. i've often found it much easier to just replace the carb with a new one, one that's already dialed in for great idle and performance.

Many carbs can only be dialed in when they are installed on the engine. Some have larger mufflers than others, etc. In my mind, and carb is going to have to be adjusted a bit no matter what. Just my 2c....
