got oil in it...then my cousin decided it would be a good idea to sit in it, loosening the kill switch. the ground wire is no longer connected. is that enough to not let it start? because now its not starting, and I have no idea why.

the ground wire is disconnected from the kill switch...

so i stabbed it back into the kill switch, gave it a few pulls, and low and behold she started...with a huge cloud of dust. i turned it off, let it sit for 2-3 minutes, started it back up and the smoke continued. i tried to ride it, it got to the end of my driveway, and turned itself off.

my imagination tells me the carb is full of s**t. i put fresh gas in this morning, but its all cloudy now.

Don't ask me where I got the engine wire from, I have no idea. I'm guessing you meant the remote on the steering wheel. What that should have done was prevent you from using the kill switch to shut off the engine.

You didn't leave gas sitting in the tank did you? I think your carb just needs to be cleaned.

Have a look at this thread: http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10036

It has tons of links to get you going if you want to clean it yourself.

I drained out most of the gas, but not enough apparently. I'm pretty sure the carb is just clogged...i found a puddle of a dark substance in the air filter...

its running now, a lot better actually. i'm trying to dry out as much of the carb as possible, I don't want to take it apart if I don't have to.

thanks man.

You may have too much oil in it. If you overfill with oil, the breather will suck oil into the carb & cause it to blow lots of smoke

That may be it. I did indeed fill it to the top. She runs smokeless now, but you can hear her "sputter" (maybe thats not the right word? it a choppy rumble). I've been starting it without the air filter on, because its drenched, and if I opened the choke too much, it would sputter more. Slowly but surely i've been able to open it more each time.

It use to rumble a lot more, but after running it for a while, the rumble became more consistent. I'll try removing some oil tomorrow.

Thanks a bunch guys.

Your carb is probably still full of oil & clogging everything, oil has a habit of sticking to everything (isn't that what it's supposed to do?). If you have some carby cleaner, spray the heck out of it with the engine running. If you don't have any, get some :roflol:

Leave the air filter off & see how it runs. If the filter is full of oil, the engine will suck it in.

What type of filter do you have? If you can't clean it you may be up for a new one

where do I spray? right where the choke control is? (underneath of the air filter)

Remove the air filter ( as suggested earlier) & spray straight into the opening. Use your free hand to operate the throttle to be sure it's getting through & doing it's job thoroughly

We're doing a great job of filling in each others blanks :roflol:

I knew I forgot something...

I gotta get something right at some point today.:roflol:

Filipe- Kind of. You can mix seafoam with oil or gas (just use it in the gas in this case). It just helps to clean everything up. I bought a can but never got around to using it on my kart.

Y'all sure are.

Thanks. I clicked the link, but there's no stores near me. I have a bottle of FI cleaner in my garage, asking to be used, so I figured I'd throw it onto the table.

Most auto prts stores should carry it, don't quote me on that though. I don't know about fuel injection cleaner on these smaller engines.
