If I was given a free riding mower by a middle-aged, potentially hot, cougar-type single woman, I'd take the engine apart and clean it good, give it an oil change, etc. Then you can take some WD-40 and oil all the parts which deal with the most friction. Then if you're really that bored, I'd sharpen the blades too. Then like everyone else suggested, go out and mow some lawns. How impressed would your neighbor be if you had the blades spinning at 5k RPM (stock un-governed set up), and it decided to come off the bolt? lol.

if i had this mower i would use it for its purpose! find another beat up tractor without a deck to mod. but its yours so do what you want to it thats just my .02

also if it is hydrostatic you cant make it faster

I'm sorry lol. I was thinking of the music video from Stacy's Mom where he mows her lawn and he's all in love with her. Similar situation where the OP is fascinated by mechanics, so he does some favors like mowing the lawn for a "good looking" single neighbor and she gives him a lawn mower to mess with. I have too much time lately. lol

Also on a more serious note, I've seen the of the maintenance company's dixie chopper going pretty fast when the guy is done cutting all the yards and the other guys painstakingly use the weedeater to get the rest. I always wondered how it is that these things are fixed when it comes to speed. Somebody should come up with a real elaborate diagram in Mspaint if they get bored. lol

well the way i see it is amything is better than the stock setup it has.if i had to choose between a vaery limiting exuaghst system or a hugh flow one ide choose the performance. **** epa. edit.srry if my graa.ar is crap but i had to type this from a kindle!

put a stack on it. lol. i always wanted to do that, i did it to my craftsman and it sounded sweet but the flapper was loud and annoying. when you increased the throttle it had a real nice thump sound
