scotts lawnmower

my doll of a neighbor wants to give me her scotts riding lawn tractor mower, any sugestions on what to do with it beside making it redneck raceble and using it to mow lawns? i dont want it to sit and rot in her back yard but i dont want it to rot in my back yard!

and yea,i was suprised when i saw it too. the emblem says scotts. like the grass seed kind. its a briggs 450cc mabey 15bph.

and some more info, scotts is made my john deer! and its a 42 inch cut with 16 hp!

You should try to convert it to a horizontal shaft.

i was thinkin about usin it for a summer time lawn mowing job. i would take the gov. off and replace the blades(cuz it still runs fine) and use it to make money

any one know how to make these things NOT go 5 mph? my cousin told me somthin about switchen the front gears with the back ones, that made no sense so what do you guys have in mind.

Ever heard of an "edit" button? It's on the right bottom side of your post. It prevent people from triple posting.

I don't really understand what you want to do. You're going to remove the governor and remove the blades, yet you want to do in the summer a lawn mowing job? I wouldn't suggest to remove the governor, if you're still going to use it for mowing. JMO. You don't want them blades spinning much faster than they're designed for.

Post some pictures from your setup. This way we can help you to achieve a higher speed than 5MPH. It has probably something to do with gears though.

Oh, I understand. That's quite annoying you don't have a camera.

You bascially want to remove the cutting blades and make some sort of gokart from the lawn mower? Right?

and yeah, not quite a go kart but you get the idea. im sure my neigbor will be very impressed as i go by her house at 30mph on the lawnmower that she gave me.

Ah, I understand.
It would really help to see a picture of the currect set up. This way we can give you more accurate information. Do you have by chance a cellphone with a camera?

As far as can think of, you will need to change the gear ratio, and you should be able to go faster.

ok so after watchin yutube vids for a while i decided that i will just switch the engine pulley with the rear one which will ive me high speed

then im gunna give it positraction by locking the differention(welding the spider gears) and mabey build a better clutch for it. The rednecks down the street Will be impressed.

shes not drunk, or stupid shes older and dosnt want to fool with it, shes the same one who gave me the engine for my mab. Her husband actually died one year ago from today. he fell out of a tree and died from the complications later. So she seems to have taken a liking to me. and ive been nothing but nice to her so Thats why she gave me the mower and weed wacker.


Idk,ill be getin a camera soon. i figure its time to get with the times.

Man, that's terrible!

I don't generally advise folks to mod mowers for speed unless they are prepared to address certain shortcomings- namely brakes and steering. These factory parts are not at all suited to high speed use.

On the other hand, you could make it an offroad/trail/mud/whatever beast on a lower budget, with less fear of death. Lift, bigger tires, exhaust stack, Lincoln Locker, winch, lights- whatever you've got.

Or, clean it up, fix whatever it needs, and make money mowing lawns. Your first purchase would be a CAMERA!!! lol

But remember- her lawn, you mow free.
