take the TC Driver off of the engine. Then inspect the engine itself. Check and make sure your exhaust is on tightly. Make sure your carb is on tightly. I would't run that TC without the bushing and second spring.

Yup, best to solve one issue at a time.

You didn't have the CVT on the engine and it worked fine correct? Then you installed the CVT and you ran into problems right? Did you removed the CVT and tested the engine again after that?

I too think it is a broken key problem. My theory is that you installed the new key but didn't torque the flywheel nut correctly. Then you tested the engine, which you had found to be working well. Finally when you installed the CVT and tightened the crankshaft bolt you accidentally dislodged the flywheel key, or possibly bent it. This threw off the timing causing the engine to not rev far past idle. This problem was possibly made more severe when you started the engine multiple times, moving the key more and throwing off the timing even further. This would cause the engine to make the popping sound and not fire.

Does that sound like a possible scenario to you? I also agree that you should get the CVT in a functional state before testing it to prevent further damage.

I concur. If you installed a new key, I can't help but think you did not properly torque the flywheel nut and sheared the new key. It would cause your no-start symptoms. Check it, assume nothing. Also- looking at pics, it appears something is largely out of whack.

EDIT- Also read through the thread entitled, "Maintaining your Torque Converer"
