hello everyone, im new to the board, new to building go karts, new to welding...so havin' said that - i'm in need of some help :D

i'm trying to build the easiest go kart that i can ( due to my lack of experience and uneasiness of my welds ) but this plan that i got ( free plan ftw) does not even show how to attach the rear axle to the rest of the frame...i want to have a go kart where only one wheel is powered by the engine. can anyone link me to a website that would have a kit ( axle that i need, and everything else needed to attach the axle to the rest of my frame ) for a reasonable price? thanks a lot i look forward to hearing from you all :D

Most people either use 5/8 axle or 3/4 most people just weld a bolt to the kart chasis these bolts can be obtained at most hardware stores. Just be careful of the zinc welding fumes!

hey thanks for all the replies...im a little unsure still though. i don't understand how the wheels would spin if i just weld a bolt to the frame and attach the wheels to that lol - remember it's the rear axle the one in question here.

usuallt use pillow block bearring for attacking axles to frames.

OOO you replied right as i was typing my own reply. where do i get those pillow blocks from? anyone here have a link to a site that sells everything ( rear axle, pillow block..bearings etc..) needed for the rear ? thanks again

ok 2 or 3 wheels he said he wants it one wheel drive so why would you say pillowblocks. Most wheel sprocket and brake assemblys have bearings in them. Look at the karts on the main page they are all single wheel drive and they just use bolts. Cause with single wheel drive there's no rotating axle

thank you so much dragster...things are starting to clear up...this is probably why it was mentioned above that most people just weld bolts to the frame....gotta do more investigating i see. :D

Put the a sprocket to the axle and a clutch on the engine. Then get a chain and put is around the teeth of the clutch and sprocket.
