Nope... yeah, I wish we could find stuff like that nowadays... but with that stupid cash for clunkers, and the price of scrap, the $100 vehicles are gone...

Cash for clunkers required buying or leasing a new car. How many people who drive a car worth $100 can afford a new car?

Yea, that cash for clunkers did mess up the beater population. You get a bunch of people getting the 20 year old truck that has been sitting in the woods for 10 years, and is worth next to nothing and get $4500 off a new car.

The trade-in vehicle had to be registered and insured for the previous year. I dont think many people had registered/insured cars sitting in the woods.

My first two cars where free, hand-me-downs. Last weekend I brought a car, first time. I ended by getting a 2000 Subaru B4. Goes like a raped ape.(Whatever that goes like?)
For NZD$5000, which I didn't think was to bad.

My first car was a 82 dodge colt. I had a neighbor that was totally remodeling his house top to bottom and I helped him after school and on weekends for 3 years. Then in my senior year he called me to come over he need to get a car to fix up for his sister. When we got the car home he gave me the keys and title and said thanks for all the help. Like most kids I ran that thing into the ground and found another one and bought it for $75. It needed a head gasket but was nice. They were fun little junkers with a high-low trans so you could drive it like an 8 speed and had 2 gears in reverse. If you can do some work yourself and look hard enough you can find a good first car. There are alot of farms here and we would drive around and look for older cars with weeds growing around them and ask if they were for sale. We found some decent cars that way also.
