The bug deflector does look poopy on there. i thought the point of the billet grills were to make it look a little more sleak. I think it would look nice with a origional grill style.

:iagree: The grill is the only part of the truck I didnt like. Given the condition the body and the negotiated price of $1800, I wasnt gonna be picky.

Theres a scrap yard on the way home from where the truck is so maybe Ill stop in a grab a stock grill.

EDIT: NPD has new chrome grills for $90 or argent(whatever that is) for a little over $30.

If you could figure out shipping i got a stock grill that i was gona replace with a billet anyway. A billet would probaly fit my truck better then a stock would. Since mines gona get bags soon.. still working on the 4 link at the 5-6'' Drop.. just need that green stuff that dissapears from my wallet.

What years the truck and hows te condition of the grill? That would be nice but I gotta do a tune up on the truck first.

PLEASE POST MORE PICS
This looks like an extremely interesting build, someone is finaly doing it:wai:

I bought a truck a little over a month ago so I dont have much cash to spend on this. I have gotten the belts on, but the distance needs tweaking. Ill start to work on the tensioner assemble soon.

So, I picked up this tiller at the swap meet today for three reasons:
1) I want a garden
2) I want a tiller with a flatty I can "borrow" for go-karts
3) I thought the compact, double belt tensioner was unique

But, when I got the cover off to I noticed that reverse runs off the cam shaft. I've never seen that before!

I found it relevant to this thread.

I think Im going to revive this build. Ive got pretty much everything I need to finish. The engine needs to be angled forward so the belts will clear the exhaust, then Ill move the engine back to give the belts more slack. Ill need to find a place to ride this thing when Im done, they turned the deserted road behind my house into a greenway:mad2: At least I got a truck so I can transport it.

im interested to see how this turns out as i think that the idea of a cart with multiple speed trans is awesome . but i fully understand the priority that 73-79 ford trucks take over go carts ( i have 3 79 ford trucks, 2 are stepsides:thumbsup:).

Did a little work. Ive found that when the belts just hang without anything pushing at all, they catch on the pulleys. Using 2 arms that each push up on the belt slightly when disengaged allows the driveline to be disengaged. I think 2 bike cranks will work perfect with a little adaptation.

Some late-night thinking has changed the design a bit. Since 2 arms are being used, the shifter will place a block in front of the arm not being used, thus preventing it from engaging. Selecting 1st will slide the block in front of second gear arm, and vice versa. The "clutch" pedal will pull both arms back simultaneously to disengage both arms and allow the block to move. Ill try to get a drawing up later.

Ok guys, some progress.

The tensioner assembly is basically done, I just need to mount it to the frame and get it hooked up. After that, I need to fab up a chain tensioner, tie up a few little things, and it'll be done!

Got the tensioner assembly mounted to the frame and working. Im in the process of uploading a video... Next, I need to get the gear selector figured out and working, and make a chain tensioner.

did it work??

Right now, both belts are being tensioned. I havent set up the mechanism to keep one loose. Ill get to that soon.

EDIT: Just went out and took the springs off the tensioners. Started the engine; good news, the belts are slack enough to let the engine run. Pushed the tensioners up to engage the belts and it worked just fine. I do need to slightly redesign the bearings that the belts run across. The screw that held it together came off quickly, which I figured would happen. Ill just tack weld a washer on the ends.
