I find an old 8hp engine and decide to do something. I'm not a welder but I got a mig welder in my garage. I decide to build a CJ7 mini jeep. No plans and no special tools, only grinder, welder, measuring tape and other common tools. I start to buy some piping and search the net to obtain info of an a CJ7 jeep. Here some pics of the project. Keep in mind that i'm not a welder and no experience working with metals. (I try to explain as best as posible, my first language is spanish.)

Thats awesome! How fast are you gonna gear it for? What size tires are those?

I want that the jeep can move about 25 MPH with two person. This wheels are for contrucction purpose. I want 530x12.

looks great! the only thing i can see that might need to be changed is that super long chain.... it might fall off over rough land. you may need to change that to a belt, if the chain keeps falling off.

there are belt clutches available. also youre running an alternator? cool!

Yes, I think the same, but I install in the center of the chain a tensioner and a chain guide to maintain it in your place. No picture with this upgrade. I'll post the photo later.

Very good! I like it a lot.
Are those leafs springs for a trailer? If they are, they are probably too stiff. You could take the spring packs apart and use only the main leaf- that will soften them a bit.
Very nice Build!

I like the leaf spring idea. This thing is going to be so awesome when it's finally done. You've gotta put some KC lights on it.

I got plans for a mini beep- its like a mini jeep but it pivots in the middle and it is 4wd, it uses 2 lawnmower transaxles and a vertical shaft engine. I might build it because it would be cool :D

Wow, nice buld man

an old 8hp engine

I just have a little suggestion concerning your alternator:

I'm cant tell what model alternator you've got there, but many like yours have an extra high 100 amp max output level.

Something a lot of guys dont realise is some high output alternators can take up to 5hp of the engines power to spin when the battery is low/in need of recharging and the alternator is charging at its max output level.

Besides using a larger diameter pulley, a little trick some drag racers do is wire a toggle switch up to the alternator plugs ignition feed so you can turn the switch off to temporarily disable the alternators output for an extra burst of engine power whenever needed.

I was just thinking that would be a cool mod to do on your cool jeep kart there...
