FIRST POST FOR NEW GUY TO FORUM HELLO PEOPLE!
I have a 8 Hp Briggs and am wondering if there there are any places online to get maybe a Header Kit or if there are any Upgrades/mods to Increase POWER:auto:

This is a motor for my one seater gokart with a posi style rear and and comet TC with jack-shaft... and 18" Rear tires,
I cant use any smaller without Frame modification

My goal with this Kart is MAJOR donuts in grass and dirt. Top speed is good to but i would like to have as much Grunt as possible on the low end:wai:

No better way to get grunt than regearing. Something like a 6:1 setup should be nice with those tires.. more if you are heavy and really want to launch but only go about 15-20mph.

Not many off the shelf parts for the 8hp Flathead if that's what you have. Now that they don't make them they really don't have support. The concept is the same as long as you don't have some old relic that smokes and knocks. More air and fuel in=more power out. Shave down the head to boost compression and port the block a little on the intake side. I don't know much about carb work but i think those carbs should be pretty good in stock form (they're pretty big). What's nice is they should have adjustable needles which will eliminate the need for fine jetting changes.

Make a header out of a piece of plumbing pipe if the exhaust port is threaded. The exhaust ports are already too big on most engines and a smaller tube will boost low end. Don't make the total length of the header shorter than 12-15" if you want torque.

awesome MAN THANKS.
I built a small 1 seat back in high school and put a OLD 8hp b.s."craftsman" rototill motor.
and it was Very snappy.. Will my 20 Series comet TC handle the 8hp? also i have seen around some places were there are different springs for the TC i see there is a Green one in there now would the yellow one help Snap it off the line?

How would a 6:1 setup be achieved im sure that is a super rookie question... So it FITS

OK IM CLOSE 54 on axle and 10 on jack i couldn't find a specs chart on the 8Hp so i guessed about 3600 Rpm with the little Speed calculator says 36MPH...hope it works out.
is any belts from like autozone i can get to run the TC ?

No you have to get the Comet belt. I can't help you too much since i've only had the Manco style ones from the 30 series which are Manco #5959. They are cogged and have a bevel cut on one side.
The springs will make a difference. I can't remember which color is the high stall one but that's what you want. It will make a difference. The motor loads up and smokes the tires on the grass hard when it engages.
I really doubt you'll hit 36mph.. those calculators are off in the real world.

So is the kart already running that you can't get good launch torque or what?

no not running i got this kart for about 100 bucks with some ohv motor that had no carb or pipe, i pulled it off and got it ready for the 8hp and then found out last night it was NO Good:( parts not being readily available. SO i am on the motor Hunt again !:(
have been thinking about the Harbor freight special 6.5 but i here mixed things about it.

The mixed things are just from the haters. They have no real facts to back up their BS claims. If you want reliability and a sea of aftermarket support you cant go wrong.

Post some pictures of your incomplete OHV engine, we may be able to help you source parts for it. What's wrong with the briggs?

The clone flywheel will be fine, if you're worried about it then get a billet flywheel. That's more money though, you're better off with a motorbike engine if you're going to spend that kind of money.

Thanks

If your worried about the flywheel coming apart or you plan running it over the governer speed, get a billet rod and flywheel.

If you get the billet flywheel, most of them allows you to adjust the timing to get it where you motor performs the best.

With the billet rod and billet flywheel both it will allow the motor to rev up a faster but other than the timing adjustment there is not a lot of power gain.

If you have a dremel you can smooth out the intake side of the block and let the gas flow better.

Also if you buy a bolt on exhaust, I would smooth the threaded part of the exhaust port to allow it to flow better.

You could buy a cam for more bottom end torque.

Higher pound valve springs will keep the valves from floating at high rpm.

ARC racing has a lot of parts for your motor if you got the money to spend.

the ohv that cam on the cart has no carb no starter no coil and makes a bunch of noise when i turn it over with the wheel., also when i dumped the fuel it was gray

If you can get a real Honda that is set up professionally for racing for $250 that's a great deal. But keep in mind the flywheel issue remains unless it is a billet unit.

You could get a good motorbike engine for that much! A motorbike engine is about a million times better than any industrial engine ever will be.

Thanks
