hello diy go karts!
I've been reading around for a while getting ideas for a build and I've finally started the process. i work with cars so i have access to most of the tools I'm going to need i just got done with sketch up design and have started to do a tape mock up on a somewhat flat piece of ground in my garage. i also just got a 212cc predator, was thinking about pillow blocks, a 10-60 clutch sprocket ratio, i really just have questions about wheel and tire size, i want to keep it on the pavement, i would like to slide some pvc on the back ones so i can drift. what size tire is best for this? and what is wrong, good, weird, not gonna work about my frame design? I'm open to any and all input. i tried to post pictures of my sketch up but i also posted and impute link below! thank you again!

10" tires. So PVC is easily found. and That frame looks WAY overbuilt and heavy. Go to Kartfab.com and look at the simplicity of his Frame design.
also Look at this frame. http://www.diygokarts.com/vb/showthread.php?t=33798

the only reason i was going for something so big is because i am 6'5 220. but that link gives me some ideas! i found a metal weight calculator and it only came out to about 50 pounds. how heavy should the frame be?

That weight sounds about right. (guessing) but it just looks heavy with all those crossbars.

You shouldn't need that much material under the seat area. You would be better off having longer continuous frame rails rather than a lot of short pieces welded together. You could put sheet steel on the frame to reinforce it and act as a floor. Most frames will have 2 or more continuous beams from front to back for strength.

On that thread Itsid posted a link for some.
But my best idea would be to find your local underground construction company and ask for scrap. Go Karts are Cool, and any Man should appreciate something mechanical, so I would bet they will be willing to donate a couple feet of scrap pipe.
