I just bought this kart for $200 and it had a new belt and a torque converter on it and it fires up real easy and runs great except for a few things.

1. when starting off the thing jerks hard a few times before it accually starts to go.. sometimes it doesnt go as fast as it normally does but in mid flight it just kicks in and goes without change in rpm or anything.

2. Ive noticed after about 1 hr of running ive broken a tooth off the torque sprocket...

3. The new belt was almost completely sheard of all teeth in about an 40 minutes on my 3rd run with it.

Now im a big guy, 240lbs or so and im really not looking forward to spending 40 dollars a belt everytime i wanna have some fun. Is there an adjustment to fix this issue or should i do what my brain tells me too and just yank the torque converter off and use the chain drive instead. Now another thing, I live in florida, there is no hills and i ride on pavement and some dirt and grass.. so i feel i dont really need the converter. Any suggestions??

Ohh and my names bobby, this is my first post :) Great Site! thanks for having me.

Make sure there's no rust on the pullies. I have a Manco kart that I bought used. Both the 30-series drive and driven pullies were really rusty. The belt shredded right away. Swapping on a new belt helped a lot, but it was getting eaten up quick.

We happened to have one of the new GCI setups new in a box, so I swapped out the drive pulley (since I can't get the driven pulley off without a puller and I can't find mine). The new drive pulley made take-offs a lot smoother and the new belt is holding up decent. The rust from the old driven pulley is eating at it, though, so I'll have to swap that out eventually.

i was thinking about going with just a clutch setup to run a chain only and eliminate my converter.. i have no hills to climb so i think it might almost be usless

heres a question... how loose should the belt be? i know its really easy to come off when not running.. it didnt squeel but it did seem pretty easy to put on and take off.. should that be ?

if your putting a brand knew belt on you should have to jam it into the driven, then pull with significant force and have it work its way over the bushing on the driver, so pretty tight, thats just judging from my experience, so maybe im wrong. check to see if you got the right belt here also if you have an asymmetrical system make sure the flat side of the belt faces to the engine

right now im going to figure out exactly what TCV i have and what belt i need, i had a 203581c which says its a 2 series belt. maybe the belt was on backwards? the flat side facing out? but i cant find this belt at all for sale.

12-13047 BELT 203581A 8 3/16 to 8 1/4 7 5/16 to 7 3/8 30-1/4 32.95 is from gokartsupply but its not available. i dont know where else to look.

203581 is a series 20 belt, symmetrical. Is your clutch assembly symmetrical or A-Symmetrical, the clutches on the Yerf-Dog stock, and all Chinese after market clutches so far that I've seen are all series 30 (flat on one side and angled on the other) meaning if you are looking at a chart you are hunting the wrong belt.

doesn't the 30 series have a 20 on it some where marking one of the sheaves angles as 20 degrees, i know lots of people see the 20 and think its 20 series but its actually 30 series.

ill get a picture up here that i have maybe u can tell it wont be that close though, ill get another one later. The belt that i took off is what i got the part number from. It had a jerky start and tore up after only a few hours of riding within the week.

like i said pic sucks but its all i got at work, u can tell how loose the belt looks.. is that normal?

The motor side of my clutch is flat.. of course the outer side is angled. now the belt i pulled off it was the 203581c.. just so u know i got this cart with the belt on it. So im not sure if this is the correct belt.. it did work but it wasnt a smooth start by anymeans. After a little bit of jerking it would take off and be fine..

Yeah, you've been using the wrong belt. If you've got the stock distance the belt that those karts used from factory was 203591 in Comet numbers. Use the chart to measure your clutches to determine the absolute correct belt. It will mainly just give poor performance and wear the belt unevenly if its the correct size but symmetrical but in your case the belt is too large in addition to being the wrong type.

R97- No, the 20 on the driven clutch does not mean 20*
