Hello,
new guy here.....
Got a 5 Y/O Yerfdog GY6 150cc electric start go kart that was in the shed for 2yrs
put a new carb. rewired doggy damage and rode it once.
after that the starter turns but the engine doesnt. it goes blank. engine can be turned by hand.

starter was removed and it turns strong. stuck my finger in the starter hole and the engine gear turned freely one way and hard to turn the other way....

what could be wrong with it? how much dismantelling to repair?

Welcome to the forum! Can you post a pic of the engine for us? Does the starter make a clicking sound, or does it actually turn over

GY6 starters are a different breed from most others I've dealt with...there's no engagement solenoid or 'spiral' mechanism to engage the drive gear with the flywheel. The starter motor shaft goes into and drives a small gear inside the crankcase that drives a larger gear that's part of a roller-clutch assembly. The larger gear and clutch mount on the crankshaft behind the flywheel and in front of the oil pump, inside the crankcase. If you can turn the gears one way but not the other, that's good - the one-way clutch is supposed to do that. But with a roller-clutch, turning it by hand may or may not be enough to get it to engage. When you turn it the "hard" way, does the engine turn as well?

If the starter motor turns outside the engine, that's good - at least it's not dead. But - it doesn't tell you much else about it's actual power output...

To make sure we understand, when you hit the starter button, the starter spins but the engine doesn't - right?

What do you mean by "it goes blank"?

Just curious, have you tried jump-starting it with:
1. Car battery
2. Bypassing the starter relay and hooking the battery + side directly to the starter motor?

by blank I meant that the starter turned but nothing mooved inside the crank case

as farr as the starter output it feels strong, it has a good torque effect on the hand as it was turned outside the engine

I was a little frustrated with the kart and was considering a new engine from harbor freight but put it off for a month cause too much farm work. This video has cleared the picture a lot.
I see that the possible bad parts could be either the reduction gear or the starter clutch and those looked readily available on the net and at reasonable prices.

the task was my mainconcern and it did not loked too overwhelming, gess Ill turn on the radio and grab some tools and try to get it to run. it may be a month but Illpost an update and again;
