Yerf Dog Spiderbox engine issues

Hello

we just bought a yerf dog spiderbox, with Howhit 150cc engine. We replaced the carburetor (however when we bought it the carburetor was new but it was leaking by the air filter so we replaced). We connected all the wiring. It will only start while you pad the throttle and hold the start button. It will idle. The carburetor is now leaking out of the air filter. Also when we hit the brake the engine will cut off. I'm at a loss of what could be wrong. Thinking maybe something with the starter clutch. Any ideas that could be helpful? I really appreciate it

If the engine quits when you step on the brake, it sounds like a problem with the wiring. Leaking gas out of the air filter two things come to mind. The cam is installed wrong ( highly unlikely. This requires opening up the engine. ) Or this kart is equipped with an electric choke, and it is stuck in the on position. There again this would be caused by an electrical problem. ( much more likely ). If you aren't pretty good with engines, and even better with electric trouble shooting, I would recommend you look on Craigslist. I see adds all the time for quad and jet ski repair guys. You might be in a little over your head. Your in over mine.

Thank you. It does have an electric choke. We were following the wire diagram when we installed the CDI and rectifier. This caused us to rewire stator and electric choke. I will have us all go back to the wiring to see if something was incorrect. Thank you for your advice.

The choke is an electric pintle. It's retracted cold to allow full fuel flow then as the engine warms up the pintle extends into the carb port to limit fuel flow. The 150cc engine usually ships with a vacuum fuel valve mounted under the gas tank that opens from engine vacuum. If the fuel valve is bad it will allow fuel to flow and flood the engine. Pull the hose from the valve with the engine off & see if it's leaking.

I'm guessing you have it wired wrong. The starter clutch shouldn't have anything to do with it, the clutch is a one way sprag that locks while cranking the engine but releases once the engine starts. Refer to this manual.
