This might be a newb question but has anyone ever tried to make a yerf dog into a shifter kart , for example by fitting a shifter kart motor into it. Because since im planning to get a yerf dog i was wondering if it was possible to do that or make kind of like a stick shift.

Please keep in mind that im new to go karting

It wouldn't be hard to put a motorcyle or dirt bike engine with a multi speed transmission on a yerf-dog. The only tricky part might be hooking up a linkage to the shifter.

Really any motor off a motorcycle or dirtbike or quad that's 80cc to 1000cc. If you get a dirtbike you can just cut the entire subframe out and weld it in as a motor mount. That's probably the easiest way to do it. Do you have pictures of the kart that your planning to do this to? Also what's your budget and where are you located

Motorcycle, dirt-bike, or ATV engine 125 to 450cc would be best. Look for engines with electric start, liquid cooling, single or twin cylinders, name brand/available parts, 2 or 4 stroke, complete bikes.

Keep in mind some ATV engines are automatic. If Automatic is ok you could also look at snowmobiles.

You could easily get a lifan for between $200-$400. Depends on how much power you want though.

i think thats a goood price range. Look on craigslist for a nice used dirtbike or quad and use the engine right off of that. You can also score good parts like the mounts, shocks, brakes, throttle, exhaust, carbs and electrical and other stuff that you normally wouldnt get from buying a brand new engine

can a stock yerf dog or dingo motor mount hold a 200-250cc quad motor without braking cuz of the torque or will i have to modify anything?
