Alright so finally got around to working on the little scout some more. Wife is fully moved into her new building for the business so that allowed me to purchase some more parts to play with.
We went ahead and ordered a new clutch and also a new set of slide weights. We went with 10g weights. Had to pull the whole swing arm off the back to get to everything easily. Installation wasnt terrible, but in the process of taking it apart, we found that one of the rear shocks was broken. Sooo we ordered a set of shocks to go under the rear as well. We also ordered a chain tensioner and a new chain. We also had a brake cable break on us and ordered a new one.
We put everything back together and had to make a couple little adjustments here and there. Once we finally pulled it out of the shop, i found that the engine was still bogging down in the mid and high rpm range. It would just choke itself out. This was after i had quite the time trying to set the carb so it would run through the entire rpm range when in neutral in the shop. I made a TON of adjustments on the carb trying to get it dialed in but nothing seemed to be working. Decided that maybe we picked up trash somehow in the carb so my son and i decided to pull it all apart and clean it up good. It was clean as a whistle. Before i ever got this buggy, it had a brand new carb bought and installed on it.
We also had the chain bind and bend the new chain tensioner. After inspection, it seams that the plate and bearing that support the shaft out of the transmission has had more……home engineering applied to it. I have ordered a new plate and bearing to replace the welded and cobbled mess that was on it. Hopefully this should align everything a little better and we can straighten out the chain tensioner and solve all of these problems.
Back to the bogging down issue. After a while of beating my head against things, i finally had the bright idea of checking the jets in the old carb. Cleaned it up and there is a massive different in the main jet. The main jet in the new carb is 102.5 and the old carb had a 125.5 jet if i remember correctly. I cleaned the main jet from the old carb and installed it on the new carb and am not waiting for a new intake seal to ensure that im not having some type of issue there. It looked a little suspect when i checked it and they are super cheap so i just went ahead and pulled the trigger.
Hopefully all of these things should remedy the remaining issues and we can finally see what this thing is going to do! I’ll post an update as i get it. If anyone knows the stock jetting on these, i am all ears!
