I'm new here and have a couple of questions.

Let me start by saying I'm by no means a mechanic. I'm a little mechanically inclined, but that's about it.

My father-in-law gave my boys a single-seat Yerf Dog cart. It hasn't run in some time so I decided to try and getting it running for them for Spring break.

The cart has the original Tecumseh 5.5 Powersport motor and what appears to be a Comet torque converter. I've already purchased a brand new Predator engine for the cart but since I was able to get this one going, I thought I would run it until it quits and then put the Predator on it.

As mentioned above, I was able to get the motor running. However, it leaks from the bottom (stuck float I suppose). My first problem was the engine bogs under any load. After it warmed up and with some tinkering, it didn't bog as much, but was spraying a light mist of gas out of the carb (no filter) and under heavy throttle, it would back fire out of the exhaust. Is there a rebuild kit for the carb or would it be best to just by a new carb off of Ebay? If a new carb, would anyone know the model number of the carb?

The second issue I feel stupid even mentioning but I can't figure it out. The gas pedal does not work the throttle on the motor and for the life of me, I can't figure out why? It appears to be connected, but when the pedal is depressed, it doesn't rev the motor at all. There's a long spring that is hanging off of the right side that appears to connect to the left side of the engine. Anyone know where that goes?

My final issue is the clutch belt. As I mentioned, I was able to get the cart motor running. I got one of the boys on it and I used the throttle on top of the carb to rev it and test the cart for conditions under load. The clutch engaged as it should, but the belt was smoking. I know the clutch was removed and reassembled by the father-in-law. I checked and it has the shim against the engine and then the parts to the clutch. Could it be slightly out of alignment or ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can post pictures or videos if needed.

Welcome to the forum. Some pictures of the clutch will definately be needed for us to tell what is happening. You might have the wrong belt or the wrong size belt. Have a look here for the belt you need. You need to measure the centre to centre distances between driver and driven and then look at the chart

You can also look at this sticky for TC maintenance

Thanks Landuse. Everything on it is original - including the belt. I'll get some pictures and maybe a video posted.
