I have a 2001 yerf dog 40000 go cart. It has a 90cc, 2 stroke motor. What would it take for me to switch to a 6.5hp Predator engine. Can this be done using the existing sprocket? Has anyone done this swap? Project for my grandsons.TIA

No, nooooo and I don't remember seeing that so far.

No you can certainly NOT replace a GY6 style with an industrial engine 'just like that'
you will need to mod the entire back of the kart
(also the 90cc two stroke has more power than the predator.. just saying)
And yes that does include the sprocket of course, since the engine it has is not only internally geared (which the predator is not) it also has a CVT which the predator lacks of course
and not even a Torque converter (the industrial engine's equivalent to a CVT [continuously variable transmission])
isn't helping being up to par with the internal gear reduction.
So no matter what you must replace the axle sprocket (to a much much bigger one!)
and the akrt will end up being slower in the end.

Anyways.. you can however install a 4stroke 125cc gy6 if you're so inclined.(even a 150cc should still fit)
that is the slightly larger slightly more powerfull and slightly quiter engine.
IF you can keep the axle sprocket with that depends on the chain .. otherwise it'd be okay.

Thanks for the info. The motor isn't running at the moment and I considered just changing it. Now you have given me alot to think about

It is not a simple plug and play. I would replace with a similar engine or fix the existing one. It will be 100% easier than doing anything else

Thanks. I have a 90cc 2 stroke engine and cannot find very much info on it or parts. Might have to go to a 150

Lets see some pics of this...

if you only want an idea of the engine in question:
find an identical kart here

But if you want to see what's wrong with the engine, I second that.

I'd be interested in seeing the enigne in question myself,
maybe we can point you to a simple fix/solution to get it going again.
[maybe it's as little as a good carb clean]
