Hey guys, I need to take off my 40 tooth sprocket off my gocart to replace it, what would be easier, just taking one tire off or just taking the whole axle off to knock the sprocket off?

Ps, Il be adding photos

Unbolt the bolts connected to the flangettes around the bearings, and the brake cable from the brake drum. The axle should drop right out after that. The best option for removal is to buy a can of penetrating oil/penetrating catalyst/rust buster(goes by many names) spray it on the axle where the sprocket, passenger bearing and rim are. Get a big hammer and persuade the wheel/sprocket/bearing off. If you are having trouble removing it, spray it with penetrating oil once a day and let it sit. Sometimes it helps to remove the axle key first. Use A big nail or 1/8th inch rod and tap the key out of the wheel and sprocket with a hammer. Removing the axle key first will let more penetrating oil in, and reduce friction when you are pounding on the sprocket.

I forgot one last thing; snap ring removal. A snap ring removal tool is really handy. The snap rings are pretty heavy duty. Also, this would be a great time to replace your rear axle bearings.

youre most likely gonna have to cut the rear wheel bearings off.

if they have been on there for any length of time they wont budge.

also gonna have to remove the chain obviously and by the looks of that sprocket and wheel bearings youre gonna have some issues.

some sand paper and pb blaster will help some but probably not gonna do the trick.

you might as well cut those bearings off. be careful not to lose any of your keys or snap rings cause they all have a use on that axle.

those bearings are actualy two piece bearings and you have to release the collar by twisting it. Once the collar is free you can try to beat the bearings off with a pipe or the old sprocket, but like I said.... GOOD LUCK!

I believe that is a 60t sprocket not a 40t BTW
