Well, nobody seemed to be familiar with the Everest brand torque converter so I thought I would start a thread and post a few thoughts and pics for your consideration.

So far it works great. No lurching at the start or sticking in the open position like the original comet. It seems to be well made (as far as I can tell) and the inside of the "bowl" where the weights ride came with dry lube applied. Comparing it side by side to the Comet, the only difference I can see is the absence of brand name stamps on the Everest, the spring being red instead of green, and the buttons being beige instead of black.

The only issue I have encountered is with the "brass" bushing that it came with. As you can see in the picture, it disintegrated. That was after only about a minute of idling and throttling with the kart on jackstands, then a 5 minute drive around the block, and a few seconds of idling in the driveway. When I went to the rear to inspect after the drive, I noticed little pieces falling out of the drive unit. Anyone encounter that before?

What you have is a classic case of the center to center distance being too great for the belt, or the belt being too small for the center to center distance (whichever you prefer).

http://www.gokartsupply.com/tcbelts.htm

have a look at that above link and make sure you measure that distance correctly, and make sure you are using the 7" diameter driven unit (iirc the dislexic godfrey go karts use the 7" ones)

Thanks for the info KartFab. I do have the 7in driven and thought I had the correct distance. The video I watched said about an 1/8th inch gap between the belt and bushing when you squeeze the belt together in front of the driven unit. That is what I had. After your post I went out to measure and discovered I have two different belts. The one that came on the kart when I bought it is longer and wider than the one I ordered when I changed the buttons and spring of my original TC. According to your link, the one I ordered is the correct belt but it is the one that shredded the bushing. My center to center isn't adjustable (as far as I can tell) because the engine and jackshaft both sit on a plate that bolts to the kart. When I loosen the bolts to slide the engine forward or backward, the jackshaft slides too. The chain tightens or loosens but the belt distance remains fixed. I put the longer belt and old bushing back on and so far, so good but the gap between the belt and bushing when I squeeze the belt is about 1 in.
