Picked up this go kart from a friend that bought new parts for it but never got around to putting it back together. I got it all assembled and we were able to play around with it for a year or so, then the driven clutch sort of came apart. What it looks like to me is that the snap ring groove is wore out a little bit allowing that part to slide out on the clutch hub which allowed the clutch just enough clearance to spin around unloading the spring completely so it would not even engage to drive.

Upon noticing this, I thought I had a temporary fix for it, a larger washer, ground out to fit over the clutch hub and hold the snap ring in towards the hub more (redneck, I know) upon tightening the nut, I think I overtightened it as on the test drive it sounded funny, got home and the jack shaft bearings were shot  Bad deal as it was a brand new jack shaft assembly when I got the kart! I thought there was a sleeve inside the housing, but apparently not.

Anyway, I found the entire housing for about $45, but I can get the bearings for about $2 each instead so I plan to go that route. The site lists the smooth outside bearing but also lists a bearing with a snap ring, is there an advantage to the one with the external snap ring and also is there a better quality bearing I can use? http://www.mfgsupply.com/az8206-99502h.html

Sorry for the crazy long winded post just to ask about a stupid bearing :lolgoku:

No, that's a good bearing..... The ones with the snap ring groove are for use in a front wheel hub, with a spacer cut to fit between the bearings, inside the hub.....
You should post up pics of all of what you got. Assembled or unassembled, or both..... Preferably....... We will get you fixed up with the right parts in no time.....
O yeah, :welcome2: and please fill in your location..... You might be my neighbor, and I'd never know that I could just come over and help you out......

Thank you! I will go and fill out my stuff shortly :) :cheers2:

Here is a few pics of it from last summer when it was working good. My two boys have a blast with it!

If I take the roll cage off it fits quite nicely in my Suburban too!

Tomorrow I will post up a couple pics of the damage.

No need to now..... That's a yerfdog. I'll find you the parts break down, if you want..... It's on the forum somewhere..... That is a common kart on here. Try the search feature..... You'll find tons of info on that kart, already on here for your learning pleasure..... :cornut:
EDIT I see you like the "wrap a rope" style of starting the engine. When you get tired of that, I got a complete shroud ill sell ya, pretty cheap.....

How much for the shroud? I hate the wrap a rope, my friend told me that the recoil dogs were about shot and he only ran it a few times (bought two broken ones, one to fix and keep, the other to fix and sell) I got it and the dogs broke after two pulls. I think it is the original Tecumseh engine but not 100% on that.

As far as a parts breakdown, I found this http://www.bmikarts.com/PDF/3203A_T.pdf I believe searching the site the other day before I joined up. There is tons of great information here, glad to be a part of it. I am quite familiar with search, I found a bunch of good stuff already, but wasn't able to find exactly what I wanted as a hard concrete answer for the bearings so definitely thank you for that :)

How much for the shroud? Good question..... Don't know it's value, but I'll make you a deal..... See what the absolute cheapest you can buy one on ebay, and I'll beat it by 20-30%..... Maybe more..... Depends how good a mood I'm in when you make your offer..... Could be free..... I've been know to do that too.....
Ok, out of curiosity, see how much you can find one for.....:rolleyes:
I'm in a pretty good mood today. I got a lot done on my build off kart..... I'm extremely happy tonight.....

Getting work done on a build always puts you in a good mood, I know very much how that goes, I have put an insane amount of work into my Bonneville and plan for a ton more yet. It is a great project / daily driver!

I can't find a used / OEM complete cover, but I do see a lot of recoil assemblies. The engine is the Tecumseh OH195 correct? This recoil says it fits - http://www.ebay.com/itm/RECOIL-STAR...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item4862003dbd

Have a link for your kart build?

Took a lot of redneck ingenuity to get it where it is so far, I hated working on a dirt driveway with no garage or anything! Much happier now with a paved driveway and a garage :)

Thanks Dave!

Any work done to the kart or all stock stuff?

I think I also have a wrist pin rattle on my engine, but I have an old John Deere 214 with a good engine on it I may try to throw on here :cheers2:

firemanjim, I looked at my jackshaft assembly and the bearing towards the clutch has that snap ring around the outside like the other bearings? I don't know about the one on the other side as that whole bearing is broke apart. I already ordered the bearings without the snap ring, they should be here today, I guess worst comes to worst I will try them out and see what I end up with, they were only $2 each :lolgoku:

That's funny cause I don't remember there being snap ring grooves. Worst case scenario...... You end up having to cut/make a spacer for between the bearings. No big deal. Even with the snap ring type, I use spacers, that way I know I'm not putting my bearings in a bind....

That is my thought exactly, just throw a spacer in there, there should have been one there to begin with!

Up and running! The driven clutch is still not perfect but I put a thin spacer behind the snap ring to make up for the worn snap ring groove, drove it all over today without issue :)
