Yerf dog 3020 build, im back again

Hey fellas, i figured i would start a post for the newest acquisition after you all helped and gave awesome input on my murray outrage build.

I picked up a yerf dog 3020 last night for 300 ( not too happy about the price but they are scarce around here) it seemed semi worth it though because it runs (kinda lol) and has all the original stuff (including the tec power sport 5.5hp ) ill be switching it out for the predator soon enough because im familiar with it and i am already not a fan of this one. Its actually why i started the thread.

The ol boy i bought it from started it up and had to hit the primer bulb a few times to keep it running but it stayex running non the less. After he left i couldnt keep it started for nothing. I did what i thought he did and it didnt work and i id it too much and flooded it. I figured if i clean the carb and that would take care of that issue. It supposedy has a new spark plug in it already.

The factor recommendation calls for 30 weight oil. Is that necessary or can i put 10-30 in it?

I also cant figure out how to choke it or how the throttle cable works its all hooked up but no response when i step on the pedal. I think the mechanism that the cable is hooked to on the motor might be gummed up ill upload pictures of that later though

Can i use brake parts cleaner to clean the carb or does it HAVE to be carb cleaner because i already have plenty of the brake parts cleaner

Besides oil change carb clean and air filter is there anything else i can do to freshen it up a bit? Is there a fuel additive i can use to clean out the tank and lines?

Does anyone know off the top what kind of tc these use and the size of the pto shaft?

As per a test video that FHB made you can run maple syrup for motor oil. I think Aunt Jemima is preferred here.

Don't use syrup. Any oil will do. Just make regular oil changes.

Your output shaft is most likey a 3/4" being it's a 5.5hp and it looks like a 30 series TC.

I don't see why you can't use brake cleaner.
Carb cleaner has a little more ummph to it and dries with out residue.

Take the tank off and put a little gas in it and shake it like a Polaroid. Dump out what you can. If there's varnish in there I'd let the gas sit a little to break it up and repeat.

As far as the fuel lines go remove and inspect. Sometime you can give em a rotorouter with a wire. If not just replace. They're cheap enough.

I bet you the carb is full of varnish. A complete teardown is in order. Lots of small holes in there have to be absolutely clean.

Thank you for the info. I would not be suprised if it was full of varnish for as old as it is and they way it doesnt stay started. I read that there was a bunch of tiny holes, some of which you dont realize are there if they are clogged up. Hopefully by tonight or tomorrow ill be able to take her for a test drive. I read about the re call they had so i will need to fix that sometime soon.

Hey friends, do you have some ideas on how i can set up our yerc dog to accomodate the kids? With the seat pushed all the way up they are too short for the gas and brake pedals. I dont see how i could move the seat up any further without them eating the steering qheel but i was interested in doing somethin with the pedals, i want to ake something that is completely reversible and fairly quick to take on and off if we all are taking turbs on it. Is there anything you all have done?

If the pedal controls are solid rods you could add a second set of pedals closer to the seat. In parallel so to speak.
Or make some extender blocks that attach to the existing pedals.

Yes, making a second set would be the best way. You could make it so you can remove them easily if you don't want them to be in the way for you.
