I recently purchased a Yerf Dog 2030 in pretty bad shape. I am in the process of rebuilding it with my son. It appears that I have an asymmetric clutch and a symmetric torque converter (is this common, or is this a problem?).

The driver clutch does not have a manufacture or model number listed. As far as I can tell it is a comet 30 or something similar.

The torque converter is a Max Torque Torque Converter.

I recently bought a new belt MXT97 (symmetrical)

The driver clutch is in bad shape, the surfaces that engage the belt are very rusted and the springs are needing to be replaced as well. Right now when idling the clutch does not slip very well and remains slightly engaged with the belt (may be because it is a symmetric belt).

I am trying to decide what the best course of action is:

1. Rebuild the clutch (new springs and parts that engage the belt) and leave everything as is (asymmetric clutch, symmetric torque converter and symmetric belt)
2. Replace the clutch with Comet Series 20 (Symmetric) then I don't have to rebuild the clutch and all components will be symmetric.
3. Rebuild the clutch, replace torque converter and belt. This will be more expensive and everything would be asymmetric.

Thoughts?

You could just buy a $70 clone TAV 30 bolt on and move the sprocket on to the left side. That's what I did and it's probably the cheapest and easiest thing to do.

I believe, you must have both the same either all symmetric or all asymmetric.
