hi how you all doin new here and new to 2stroke .
I do alot of grasscuting for banks and such. And im wondering if anyone has ever tweaked a husqvarna 125l weedwacker motor up? Or the echo weedwacker motors. Im looking to get alittle more balls out the wackers i use . Also was wondering if anybody no if the coils and such for the cheap knock off motors would work on these. due to one haveing a bad coil wire to the plug. Any info or advice be great. By the way some times the weedwackers will be ran straight non stop for a hour or more. but useualy for 15 to 20 mins then ten or 15 min drive to next house and fireing back up. Any tricks tweaks you no of would be great thanks. This week i will take pics of my little pocket bike i need to get id on what kind it is.

your title caught my eye...lol...i wonder, anyone ever know a dumb guy with new questions on a forum?

i just had to bite at that, sorry...welcome aboard.

engine interchangeability depends on the clutch/pto setup...post pics of the clutch area, or links to manuals, and i'll be happy to let you know what i see and think about your questions.

ok, the equipment is using a proprietary clutch and housing, so you won't be able to use a "universal" utility engine.

if more power is absolutely necessary, you could research the specs of the (walbro) carburetor and find one that's for a slightly larger engine...this requires the actual walbro number, and a more than rudimentary knowledge of what you wanna do.

my experience with "1/2-price copy" items for small engines has convinced me to stick with OEM, because it'll usually last much more than twice as long as a knock-off part.

not the answers you wanted to hear, i know...if that was my equipment i'd just give it a complete (OEM) rejuvenation. depending on how hard you've worked the engine and for how long, "good as new" can sometimes be one heck of a surprise.

if you want to work your way through that, i'm sure the forum would be happy to pitch in & help you out. just start tearing it down, one step at a time if you need to, with pics, and we can talk about the best moves to make.

forget the chinese stuff. Just forget it.

get your hands on a secondhand shindaiwa t270(i belive they stopped selling thwem in the states a few years back). can still get them new here and they go forever.

i've found the shindaiwa stuff much better than echo(even tho echo now owns shindaiwa?). Husky parts are more expensive i think and their weedeaters are less reliable than the japanese stuff. Husky does make strong engines tho

edit: oh yeh best thing to do on these things is to clean the exhaust port and the muffler/spark arestor out every so often. also make sure the air filter is flowing well. I've found my echos are very sensitive to any restrictions. editedit: another thing i've found with echos is they tend to get alot of carbon build up if you use cheap oil. i used to run fuchs oil and i was always cleaning out the exhasut port and the combustion chamber. I've been using the genuine echo oil at 50:1 for over a year now and they dont get anywhere near as much carbon build up and run much better.

Yeah if you clean up the muffelers you can notice the power difference (depending on how old). Soak it in carb cleaner or gas. It rids it of oil and build
Up.

i have a brand new bought in september shindawa h4 hybrid in the shop right now used it from sept to october. then from the first of april to the 18th then the clutch or drive head burnt out. not impressed with shindawa. I love Robin power equipment. but they stoped makeing trimmers couple years ago. My robin been running for 15 years. total of 8 of them it was used comercialy. starts 2cnd pull every time. Echos hard starting ruff running . by time it smoothes out yards done. tired of there junk to i still gota find the modle i got to see if anything will interchange with it. The husqavarna i have ran like a champ till the sparkplug boot got riped up. and then yanked off the plug. Tomrow i will have the echo modle. I need to take pics of my pocketbike and my gokart both need work. lol

yeh iduno you guys get **** in the states now due to epa. cant buy any of the good old twostrokes. I will say 100% that shindaiwa twostrokes outperform echo twostrokes cc for cc. which is probably why the shindaiwas dont meet the emissions rules in usa anymore. Old echos are better than the new echos imo. The engines seem to be much the same as 10-20 years ago just dont quite make the same power and are real finicky. i guess they set them up right on the limit of running like arse and good to pass that epa stuff

yeah the epa rateings are why the robin power equipment stoped doing the weed trimmers. subaru bought out robin and now makes there 4 strokes and a new version of the two stroke motors. but the 2strokes arew for pumps and blowers and such. i need to call them to find out if they will interchange on the trimmers. but im thinking there gonna be like the knock off motors and not be able to use the right clutchs and bolt pattern. so other then cleaning out the mufflers. anything else i could do to get more power out of the echos?

not realy. Some guys remove the spark arrestor from the exhaust.

you could put an older adjustable carb on.

have a look at the racing chainsaw stuff on the internet if you realy want to modify the engine haha. Overall would be easier to buy a bigger machine if you want more power

Removing the spark arestor is illegal, if you plan on working with that engine i wouldent do it. Lots of guys take dremels and cut out the guts of the muffeler. This makes them louder. Im not sure if it adds performance.

srm 225 i beleve is the modle of the echo trimmer
link to a blow up diagram of the motor and such

how do i remove the spark arester?
Buying a larger machine realy aint a option considering. i cant find a product that runs right , runs strong, gets the job done every time.

oh jeez no wonder you are strugling for power. I have a 235es and thats gutless as, was only good for trimming edges, never realy had the grunt to cut long grass so i coverted it into a hedge trimmer. Switched to a shindaiwa t230 which is nice and light but still has enough grunt for the ocasional section clearing job. If i was doing the kind of work you are them i'd get a much bigger machine with a harness
