While I fully agree that it's nowhere near fun watching somebody get hurt because of such an idea..

it's indeed tempting somehow to have some sort of "Do as I say, not as I do" category
with unsafe but fun builds.
(a contest might send the wrong signals here ;))

I've got a lot of unistrut lying around.....

So do I; and if you don't know what you are doing, it's not safe to build shelves with it. Anyone who thinks that all they need to do is weld the joints just about seals their fate.

What makes this stuff so handy is also it's Achilles heel: it's called the holes. This stuff is intentionally turned into Swiss cheese at the expense of over 50% of its structural strength. And its all angle iron. The dinamic failings of angle are bad enough. Punch it full of who knows how many holes?

Have you signed up for your Darwin award yet?

I build and service industrial equipment for a living, I can whip out a decent go kart in an afternoon if I want.

But, I may just build something out of PVC just to tick everyone off, LOL.
