Hey Guys,
I ordered new tires- Kenda Scorpion K290's - rear 18x9.5x8 & front- 14.5X7-6 a couple weeks ago before the big snow that we got slammed with here in Baltimore, MD. We got almost 30" a couple weekends ago. So Friday night before it got to deep I took the kart out to see how she did with the new tires (installed that day and bolted on seconds before the ride)
The tires have great tread and grip compared to the original 20x10x8 turf saver tires that come on the YD3203. Even in the snow the thing took off and didn't spin a ton.
I could wag the back end pretty good going down the road! I was too excited to get out there and forgot to put the GoPro on to get some good video. O'well, next time.
The tires geared it down nicely on top of my 9T JS gear (10T is stock). Still have stock 60T sprocket. This past weekend after most of the snow was gone from the roads I took it out and with my Stage 1 governed Predator 212 I hit 27 mph with the smaller wheels. Not bad! I only hit that once though and most of the time the kart couldn't get above 23. I have noticed that the kart often seems sluggish since I took it back in the woods a few months ago. The engine sounds like it's revving, but I don't feel the normal power and the TC takes a while to shift into the higher gear even though I cleaned the TC Driver and lubed it with dry lube. I thought it might be the TC driven as it clicks when I take off. I ordered a new spring and buttons so I pulled it off after my short ride this weekend. Then I noticed that my chain was super tight and it wasn't straight! I took it off and it is all locked up. In the attached picture my hand is at the bottom holding the chain. It is completely stiff and hard to move! I can't believe the kart went at all as stiff as the chain is! The JS gear is maybe 1/8" or less off center from the sprocket and it also rubbed the edge of the TC sometimes too. Is that normal for a chain? I bought it brand new <6 months ago and it only has 20 or so hours of use on it. I've had the chain in a bag with some motor oil for 24 hours now and some links are free and some are still a little stiff.
Is this normal for a chain to get stiff like this? Do I need to oil/lube the chain every time it gets wet? Do you think I need to toss the chain or what should I do to help loosen it up?
Thanks,
-Tony
