Why do you Guys think tig welding is hard? It's like a giant soldering machine. I'm no pro(yet) but from what I've done and seen my friends do(were like 15-18) it's not all that hard, but then again I do get you you a brad new Miller inversion 180 tig :D

I love tig welding! I find it very easy and controllable, and it gives great results every time. I try to use it for as much as possible but it is very time consuming. I have an old miller tig machine that is 350 amps continuous, I can tig 1/2" plate single pass with it no problem, best part, it was only $150. It does weigh 700 pounds though.

Anyone can lay a bead, but only someone with experience can lay a nice bead that is structurally sound. Part of the trickiness is the fact that your using three of your limbs at once. One hand to hold the torch and control the arc, another hand to feed the wire, and one foot to control the amperage. Were you using filler rod?

I don't even want to think about what my Miller synchrowave 250 TIG setup weighs. The big bottle probably weighs 200lbs alone! I had to load it in the truck with a forklift and it was squatting the truck pretty good...
