yet another Hello-Thread

Hi,
I was reading the one or other post in this forums for a short while now, and I thought I might register, since I will need your help soon I presume ;)

Let me explain;
a few friends and I wanted to take part in a redbull soap box race, but being short of time, we decided to build "something" first and race next time.
And, having a soap box might be fun, but having it being self propelled sounds much more rewarding, so -basically I- decided to build a kart and remove the motor if we race a rb soapbox derby.

That's where you come in, I am sure I will need your help reducing errors in building the kart in the first place.

So thanks for that in advance :D

see you soon

PS As you can tell for sure, I'm not a native speaker, so please excuse all odds.

Welcome to the forum!

Typically, soapbox racers are wooden, while go kart frames are steel. We generally discourage wooden go karts because they would have to be exceptionally well-built in order to be considered "safe" when powered. If you were to build such a wooden frame, it would end up being far too overbuilt to be any good as a gravity powered soapbox racer. In addition, steering, braking, and other chassis components for a go kart need to be much bigger and heavier for a go kart too.

With that in mind, I would suggest you build a completely different chassis for each project.

Your English is not bad. In fact, it is much better than some native-English speaking people! What is your native language? Where are you from?

Thank you!

Right, 'typically' they are.
Let me correct things a bit:
replace "soap box" with "gravity racer" where applicable ;)
(We are going for a steel frame)

The rules for this years red bull (they call it soap box derby) gravity racing event is not too restricitve on frames, as long as the vehicle doesn't weigh more than 80kg.

But we're not participating this year anyways, so we can do whatever we want (and can afford doing ;))

I was asked doing the design, my friends are heading for the more manly parts of the work
(grinding, welding, sweating *add Tim Taylor grunt here*)

If it's okay with your forum rules I'd start a build thread that will take up to a year from now to the finished pile of junk that we might end up with (hopefully a cool fun kart)

I'm from germany and thus german is my native language, but as a code monkey (vbulletin hacks, backend software for web applications etc.) I have to deal with english on a daily basis, but I don't feel very confident writing longer parts of text other than my usual "if then else do while" stuff ;)
So thanks for the compliment.

Thank you for the further explanation! We will not only allow a build thread, we encourage it! And we like lots of pictures here, too!

*grunt*! LOL
